At that price range, it will always be a bike shaped object ... which isn't a bad thing. Get one,, see if you take to the sport/activity and make up your mind if it's worth investing in a better bike?
 
Cant think of any others ive seen in that budget tbh. Im on the look out too, i dont quite know what for yet but i am LOL

Hey guys another question, as im totally google fu'd out, im trying to work out if my gear outer cables are too long at the front (front shifters to downtube) is there any guidelines you guys can give me. They seem to bend away from the shifter pod then curve back to the downtube as a rough explaination.

Yeah I have a Marin H/T but i have spent a LOT on bits and now thinking i should
have took the plunge and bought a better / more expensive bike from the outset.

Im thinking of joining the C2W scheme and getting one through that.

It appears most of my riding is daft little trips out where a full susser wouldnt be needed, so do i :

A) Keep my marin and buy a cheap(ish) full susser

or

B) Sell marin and get a more expensive H/T

Being a "larger" rider i feel i would ideally need more than 100mm travel up front :(

Any thoughts on the above greatfully recieved.

Well after a good 8 or so years out of the saddle I've decided to start riding again. Way back in the day I had a Marin quake 5.0, and a fine steed it was too. Now, I decided that it was a bit old and a little bit past it's best for what i'd like to be doing so i've given that to my dad to use and I got this second hand:

When I say second hand, it was utterly perfect and had only been ridden for 33 miles before the guy decided to sell. I drove from Newcastle to Stoke on Trent to buy it and wasn't dissapointed at all.

So, now the hard part begins - riding the thing :D To be honest i've been out on it for a few hours on a night and it's great, I was always quite hard on my old bike so thought getting another robust hardtail would be the best idea.

It's had a few upgraded bits and bobs put on it, it's quite bewildering trying to get to grips with all the lingo again. :D

I've never had any issues getting spares, got 2 new master cylinder pistons from CRC & a whole load of others from Propel Bike, Toby is an awesome mind of information & solved the issues I had. They've standardised their pads now so they all use the same R1/The One pad, even Superstar sell em as does a whole load of online stores.

Got a set of The One 2010 now fitted to a Cannondale Rize 120 1 & they're mind blowing, too powerful possibly!

OK so they dont have much pad throw due to leverage ratio, but they're a piece of pi** to setup, they may rub a little but I'd rather have that than Elixir's pulling to the bar if they've been laid on their side.

As for the bleed kit I use the Avid one, same thread size & pitch, works perfectly, possibly better than Formula one?!

Ok - the rear derailleur cable / outer looks a bit long.
Can't really tell for the front derailleur cable - can you get a picture looking from the back of the bike to the front? Or a side top view looking down on the front section?

There's isn't no guide to a certain length. As long as they're not ridiculously long or too short that they're tight.

I'll post a pic of mine when i get in after work for you too see. ;)
