Um, if you're buying a sim-free handset, why not just put your 02 sim card in? If you can't then you'll need to get a PAC code from 02 to transfer your number to whichever provider you choose.
I got my Samsung i8510 from them last year. Hassle free as long as you remember to cancel the tech support that's free for the first month, but costs you £5+ p/m after that.
You could try MobilePhonesDirect, as the Desire is free on T-Mobile / 18month@£25 / 300min&text / unlimited internet. Same deal with Mobiles.co.uk costs £70 for the handset.
Advantage is Mobiles.co.uk have them in stock, whereas MPD aren't getting more until tomorrow at the earliest apparently.
Tomorrow? I got en email saying they are not expecting stock until the 2nd week of June..
Just ordered from mobiles.co.uk, web 300 so 180 for phone, 300 txts n minutes and unlimited internet. 15 a month. Checked cex earlier and think can sell my iphone to them for about the same cost so just means saving 20 a month on my contract.
Hope mobiles.co.uk dont pull the 'lol no stock we just say that on our web cuz we are fools'
That's right. MPD won't be getting them probably until mid June.
Go with Mobiles.co.uk, I've got mine and I ordered it Friday, it's superb.

I think most people could live without the SenseUI, so when Modaco have the ROM sorted people will most likely just shove that on there
Hopefully HTC get it sorted fast though, would be nice.

I would imagine if this were true then HTC would be confirming this, 4 weeks would be a pretty decent turn around.
Although they did give out Evo's at IO, the launch of 2.2. A device which runs 2.1 and no ETA beyond '2010' for an update. So maybe they do have something up their sleeves.
The guy I talked to last Friday said they were getting a shipment in this week on the 25th, with my order not arriving untill the 27th or 28th.
If you've both heard otherwise since Friday, then looks like I'll be cancelling my order and going elsewhere.

Just wondering, if I buy a Desire from Orange directly, and it has their custom bits and pieces on - will I be able to get 2.2 update on the 23rd June (if its true that is)? or will I have to wait around for Orange? 
I've just checked and I received the email from MPD last Friday morning about 11am.

You will most likely have to wait, as Orange will chuck their junk on it.

I thought as much. Perhaps better to go through Carphone Warehouse then and get a unbranded/sim free handset, I think they are anyway.
Anyone know if the benefits are the same? as on the orange site I'm looking at Panther 35, that comes with 400 mins, unlimited texts, internet and 50 picture messages a month (18 months). Will these same things be on the contract if I buy via carphone warehouse?

Its slightly more complex to do, but yes you could do via a manual download and install (Like almost all the Nexus's running 2.2 at the moment have done
)I suspect it won't happen on the 23rd, it seems even the Nexus OTA was a mistake as its now as its been pulled from Google's servers :/
