LOST..... How do you think it will end

I'm glad I'm not the only one lol. I was seriously fighting back tears for the last 20 mins or, basically from Jack touching the coffin onwards.

I watched it with other people the first time at 5am so put on my gameface and was proper macho about it, then when i re-watched on my own I let it all out haha!

So where did the island come from and what was the explanation for all the quasi magical stuff?

Did it do what all American tv shows do and go to "god" ?

Where the island came from wasn't answered exactly, at least not in a way that could be explained easily. As for the magics it depends on what bits you mean as regards the reason. Tefal, you post in here quite a lot, why don't you try watching it?

Cute, except it's not right the island was clearly 100% fully real, the writers just couldn't be bothered to explain any of it so they gave us the alternate reality which was everyone getting back together after they were dead.
They basically **** all over their own work for the last few seasons and rendered pretty much all of it irrelevant, to give us a hokey, contrived, "happy" ending.

In the end they told you that almost nothing of what you've watched in the last 6 seasons was relevant to the story they wanted to tell. The writers threw so much stuff into the mix that they decided they was no way to actually explain everything, so they didn't bother.

Lost was cool when it was about science and Dharma... not really into the way they wrapped it up and the finale (to me) was against everything I used to enjoy about the series.

Shame really!

I agree with these guys.

I could get on board with the intriguing, open to interpretation episodes and endings/events of certain episodes, were it not for the fact that this route is in such stark contrast to that laid out in seasons 1-4.

I could accept it if it didn't seem that seasons 1-3, some of 4 even, were written before the writers had even the faintest idea of the shows ending

As much as I loved 1-4, I can't make excuses for what is imo, such a weak conclusion.

I watched the final episode last night and have been digesting it since then... I've come to the conclusion that it was a cop out.

It was a superb episode that stands up on its own, but as an ending it pretty much rendered the whole series pointless.
Apart from the character building stuff that, as others have said, could have been handled in fewer than six seasons, pretty much everything else we encountered along the way ended up having nothing to do with anything.

In fact I think I'd have liked it better if the island had ended up being a dream/the afterlife/whatever.
To say that these people spent a good portion of their lives on this mysterious, magical island after being brought there by a demi-god and then completely gloss over that fact by saying that they all come together in purgatory to move on once they've found peace is frankly pointless.

It's almost as if the writers were sitting there with a big middle finger waving at everyone who's spent the last six years watching it.

after a few days thought its just reinforced my opinion that the ending was perfect

I more than anyone needed to know what the island / magic light was all about and the smoke monster etc etc etc

but the ending just spells it out to you, you dont need to know, it doesnt matter, in the end its just about the people and how they live and die

watch the start of LAX again, do you think it starts from where jack died? weird to think we saw his immediate thoughts as soon as he died without realising

I'm wondering if people's dissatisfaction/satisfaction can be correlated to their belief in God.

I'm agnostic, but believe strongly in Science. I take nothing at face value and usually require some form of proof. Inorder to believe in God I would need some form of proof.

To this end, I felt the ending was terrible. I guess I was after a more science fiction based ending.

Perhaps those who enjoyed the ending also happen to be more spiritual and do believe in God, the afterlife, etc.

One thing they never explained..

Why did they take the kids and do 'things' to Walt?

Can someone answer this?

Obviously kids were important to them because on the island, nobody seemed capable of giving birth. However, what did this do to Walt and what the hell happened to him.

Ethan (super strength)
The Asian dude with silver hair (talking to the dead)
Walt (re-animating dead animals)
Hurley (talking to the dead)

All the above had special powers, yet they were not explained.

I've posted in here 3 times....

And i don't want to watch it because i found it terrible.

I was just curious how they wrapped up all the John is a smoke things, why the island moves why people live for ages wtf that magnetic crap was etc.,

But it looks like they never did.

Just watched the 1st 5 or so mins of that again and yeah it starts from where jack dies. Also i think that all the questions people want answers to, the polar bears ect... I think as you said the idea is none of it matters, i think Lost was about the characters journeys and finding themselves, finding faith, happnes ect.

ok it may have not started out with that plan but honestly they could not have had all of what happened planed before it even started. You cant plan for 6 seasons. I was happy with the ending and i think it leaves it wide open for a pequal.

just started watching from the start of series 1 again, id forgotten that the start is EXACTLY the same as the end, with vincent running out of the woods etc.. amazing :D

hmmmmm only just watched the ending...

I loved lost, even when it was crap I loved it, dunno why I think just the environment and the characters always had me enthralled...

However, This is now the third thing I have seen/read that ends with the beginning, I'm not going to mention the other things that end like that as I don't want to spoil them for anyone but I find it to be a very easy way to end, then again, how the hell do you end something like lost?

Gonna mull it over, but I think the ending could have been better... I don't really like that everything was rendered a bit pointless :(

I've just finished watching it after my daughter decided she could spare 2 hours and we both feel cheated.
We feel as though we've just wasted several years.

When the pre-broadcast hype for LOST first started I dismissed it as "Dawson's Creek On An Island", likely to be watched by twenty-something women. I gave it a chance and was intrigued by the pilot episode but then nothing happened other than soap opera crap for ages. As soon as they entered the Swan hatch it started to go somewhere and I absolutely loved the second and third series. The Dharma stuff was introduced in such a way that it appeared pivotal to the plot, and with the blast door map and each new station discovered it became increasingly more fascinating. The rabbit incident in the Orchid station seemed to be a portent of things to come.

The main losties time-travelled back to 1977, giving the show the perfect opportunity to do something with that plot-line. All we got was the soppy lovebirds, and the shooting of Ben, which an intelligent viewer might have thought would be mentioned when the shooter met Ben after the final timeflip.

So after five series of quite good drama and plot we arrive at series 6 and the flash sideways. I don't know what I expected from these but it certainly wasn't what we got.

What we got was "Dawson's Creek On An Island" with the cheesy ending from Band of Brothers.

Oh, and the ending was also nicked from this 1972 classic (skip to 8:35)
