*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Just keep the USB cable on your person or in your vehicle. Almost everywhere you go a USB port is bound to be nearby. Heck EVEN TV sets and DVD payers have USB ports which you can charge off or a games console for that matter!

+1

I've got an old Nokia data cable which is about 6 cm long, great for the odd bit of juice when I'm out and about.

I got a handsfree for the work van... just a bluetooth thing that's solar/micro-usb powered... so that's powered by the sun & the cable with car adaptor is there if i ever need it :D

Well worth the money for the speakerphone + free phone car charger hehe

What are the benefits of rooting?

Rooting permits you superuser (root, full access, admin) rights to your phone.

This lets you make changes that wouldn't normally be permitted, including a different recovery rom so you can easily backup and flash your phone.

It allows you to flash different ROMs that were not built by HTC, these can be modified in many ways. No Sense, added JIT, newer versions of Android, different built in apps (like Wavesecure built in so it can't be uninstalled), etc.

What is going on grrr

I keep getting the low space icon.. ill delete an app, and it'll go then it'll be back, its back now.. yesterday I had 180 kb left now its 14 mb and I haven't deleted anything myself.. drives me mad

Also now friends stream isn't updating.. hasn't done for 7 hours.. all sorts of things are going wrong

Earlier I couldn't connect to mobile gsm network cause in the settings it just said 'failed'... had to do a reboot
:/

Just thought i would chip in and say i tried to root mine... no joy.

Got as far as the connection to the pc, the bat file i ran worked and started doing things to the phone... progress bar etc, was still working away (moving to the next stage id image) and it restarted then at on the HTC screen for ages, no sign of life!

After 20/25 mins i pulled the battery out as nothing else would work, then restarted the phone whilst going to get a drink... was pretty worried at that point mainly as it had done something!

BUT it booted fine, and im only doing officail and WWE updates from now on :)

Hmm I'm having quite some issues with mine at the moment, namely charging. The phone is pretty much refusing to charge, either on USB or via the plug socket. It's been slow at accepting charge over the past few days, but now it doesn't seem to be accepting any full stop. Been on for around an hour, and it's not budged. Going to leave it over night and see what happens.

Have to see what HTC say if it doesn't.

So, there's something that I know annoys other people about the HTC Desire - and that's the Facebook contacts automatically showing up after hitting the "Phone" button from the home screen, even if you untick Facebook contacts from the view menu.

Now this never used to annoy me until today when my new Golf arrived which has this Touch Call (or something like that) hand free kit. After saying someone's name, it told me the contact didn't have a authentic phone number. I have not retested but I'm sure this is down to Facebook contacts.

Problem is, I like the Facebook sync due to getting peoples photos - but I've found a neat way to still get photos without having Facebook for HTC Sense syncing contacts.

I followed the following process:

If you don't already have your contacts as Google Contacts - do the following:
  1. Export your HTC Desire contacts to SD Card (this is an option from within the People application).
  2. Sign into your Google Mail Account and select Contacts from the left.
  3. Somewhere, you'll find an import button. Import the contacts via the file created from your contacts export.
  4. Edit any contacts from within Google if you're not happy, I suggest actually manually merging any two contacts who are actually the same person.

If you already have Google Contacts setup, start from here:
  1. Go to http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=133934337558 and download the application.
  2. Follow the instructions in the readme.txt.
  3. Your Google Contacts online will be synced with Facebook data, including picture of higher quality than you have via SenseUI.
  4. Check online that your Google Contacts have photos.
  5. Remove the Facebook for HTC Sense account from the Accounts and Sync settings.
  6. In your Google Account in the Accounts and Sync settings, check contact syncing if you've not already and click the sync now button.
  7. If you want SenseUI to still update your Facebook wall for FriendStream, re-add Facebook for HTC Sense but untick sync contacts STRAIGHT AWAY!

Your contacts should have photos just via Google now (if they don't you can edit the contact in the phone and clicking their photo will bring up a selection list, of which Google will be an option).

Hmm still not rooted ¬_¬

I don't want to have to wipe you see, as I have many apps configured perfectly at the moment, is it possible without wipe? I'd only considered a wipe for a fresh 2.2 rom :/

Man up and get a move on boy :p

Wanted to change my primary email account to @gmail instead of @googlemail.. Changed it now but my Desire fails to sync with the server. :(

My Talk died when I did that, everything else seems to work fine though. Seems like a hard reset is needed to sign in with the @gmail address instead. Words cannot express how much I can't be bothered :p

Rooted :D

I didn't bother putting a custom ROM on. Im going to leave it till i get back from my honeymoon, and hopefully there will be a 2.2 ROM i can update too :) Going away for a week on Saturday so gives them plenty of time ;)

I still think we wont see an update from HTC for this. I think Hero owners have already given up on 2.1

You have to reset your phone to get this to work. It's a known fault that google is working on. Change your email back and it'll work fine

What instructions did you follow to root? Can you post the link please?
