*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Question for you fine ladies ;)

When I get an email through, I get 2 notifications of it, one from Gmail, the other from HTC Mail.

I assume they work as both seperate mail clients, as the Gmail one updates far faster (I'm assuming it's pushed and checks very frequently, or however that works).

Wouldn't this cause unecessary battery draining and is fairly pointless?

If so, would disabling the Gmail one cause any sync problems from the HTC Mail program or anything else or is it completely seperate and just reads your email from your Gmail inbox whenever you set it to?

Hope that makes sense, lol :p

Push email doesn't check, it gets pushed to the device :p It uses little to no battery and takes mere seconds (if even that) to zip through.

The mail client may well use more battery depending on the fetch schedule.

How close are they to releasing the next firmware that will allow apps to be installed on msd?

No idea for HTC but Modaco's 2.2 rom is due within days.

Which do you prefer using?

If Gmail, just go into the Mail settings and delete the account.

If you prefer the stock Mail, unsync Gmail in the accounts and sync settings.

If you want to keep both, turn off notifications for one of them. :p

Well, I quite like the HTC one, but if I could get a nice Widget for the Gmail app, I'd surely use that!

Preferably free, any suggestions? :p

On another note -

It would seem that the guys on XDA have got 2.2 working on the Desire now, they are just fine tuning a couple of things and need to get Bluetooth working :D

Cannot wait!

XDA will maybe have a release ready for this weekend, they just need to fix the camera and bluetooth :p

Give! :D (Top picture is a speed test, slightly overclocked but it's level with the N1 when at normal speed)

Notice the stock Desire speed all the way down at the bottom

Like what? The inability to tell everyone you've got an iPhone, which as I can see is the only real benefit of a phone so mind numbingly simple that it forces you into the application menu the second you unlock it? Presumably the average iphone user would be too scared by the concept of a homescreen.

+1, i recently switched after having 3 iphones and i cant say i miss them at all.
fact is iphone is a horrid system backed up by apps - andriod is quickly come up to speed with that and im happy to join the ride along the way.

the only issue i have with my desire at the mo is the lack of proper podcast support and full resume fuctionality - but im sure that will eventually be fixed and the pros far outway this small issue.

oh and i want catshot and peggle on andriod!

Tried Google Listen? OTA Podcatcher with resume, or DoggCatcher, RSS & Podcatching with resume.

Perhaps not a Desire question per say, but maybe someone reading this will know the answer.

I want to upgrade from my iPhone 3G to a Desire on o2 instore as I get £125 cashback through work that way. I want to buy the phone this weekend, but I won't have chance to properly setup the Desire how I want it until a few days later. So I want to keep my iPhone running for a few days after I have bought the new phone. Will they let me do this in the o2 store and let me activate it and sort it all out by myself at home? I'm on contract and will continue to do so and I want to keep my number if that is relevant.

Just tried the Froyo rom he released it has lots of work to do, it is not smooth moving around the screens and going in all programs, flash works fine i tried a video on game trailers and it gave me the option to download flash via the market place as it wasn't installed as stock but it played the video fine.

I wouldn't use this rom atm personally all the time so its back to the one i was on before.

Nope, we are just too lazy to have to press the screen twice rather than once. Why would you unlock your phone to not open an app?
Then as a percentage how often do you find yourself actually doing that?

I'm trying to convince myself to get a desire, I just struggle to see apart from the sexy big screen any reason not to wait for the next iphone.

How do I know if I'm pushing rather than pulling email?

I have the default gmail app running, then an IMPA account for work and an Exchange account.
