Apple is now bigger than Microsoft

How about because we're not just talking about you, however, you do typify the average Apple user and just FYI, I have an iPhone, an iPod Touch, I've always owned iPods and even have a Hackintosh to cater to the computer illiterate customers I have to deal with.

The difference is, I know my iPhone is no longer the latest and greatest and also accept that my iPod touch isn't expandable and the sound quality is rubbish.

Im assuming your not saying all Mac Users are illiterate? :)

As for the latter, so do I. I just don't care as I'm quite happy with my 3GS.
Sound quality is debatable to be honest, can't hear the difference between the desktop playing it, my iPhone playing it or even a Zen playing it. Subjective that one IMO.

One of the best looking designs on the market? LOL Yeah if you want your computer to look like something out of a kitchen catalogue where they have a stiffy for generic boring aluminium maybe.

I've not seen a PC that looks as good as an iMac but whatever. The design fits perfectly into my study. You may, of course, disagree but some of us don't want big boxes with blue LED fans. :p :D

As for the glib comment on running OS X on a PC I bet the same people that do that are the first to jump up and down when somebody admits to pirating Windows.

Apple super-fanning is the cool thing nowadays.

No it isn't. They've become the new Microsoft - as in it is now cooler to hate Apple than it is to like them.

As for being cool owning an item - that's rubbish and for idiots. I own a few Apple products and I don't see myself as cool nor do I see myself as being better than my fellow man.

My Dad loves macs because he's been using them for ages since he's a photographer. Apparently they're better for working with photos (?) I really don't get it though. A computer that is far far cheaper has all the same software available, if not more.
It's also worth pointing out that for the completely computer illiterate macs are just as useless as PC's. My Dad bought both my grandparents Macs and they still call me up asking how to sort out all of the problems they're having.
I'm a fan of iPods and to an extent the iPhone but iPads and all the iMacs aren't worth the money.

They're exactly the same for photo editing with the same software too (Lightroom/Photoshop).

The days of Macs being better for editing video and photos have been long gone.

Whats so good about a computer that cripples upgrade potential by bunging everything behind the screen? The only thing on an imac that can be upgraded is ram, anything else is a factory only "at time of order" option. If you want more drive space that means external drives which just means more plugged into the machine, more wires dangling about (which seems to be pet peeve for jobs) and usually slower transfer rates. I also wouldn't mind seeing how hot the cpu and gpu's get in such a small enclosure on cpu\gpu heavy tasks.

I really don't see any redeeming factors in the imac at all. The only obvious one is fewer wires but thats hardly a "be all end all" issue like that tool Jobs makes it out to be.

Yes, but I still had to shed out 2x£172 for W7 Pro from XP compared to the
£40 I shed out to upgrade my MBP, my Brothers MBP and my Mac Pro.

£344 - 40 = £304 difference?

Real world costs there.

Edit and actually, the upgrade from Tiger (which only the very very earliest of Intel Macs shipped with) is £132 which includes iLife and iWork.

Home Premium + Office is more than that.

So yes actually on the cost side of things OS X wins TBQH.

Why did you not buy Windows 7 when it was £40? That was for the Home Premium. Office is a completley seperate product and if you own a Mac all you are buying, no matter how you look at it, is upgrades as you have the O/S thrown in when you buy it. You can buy PC's without an O/S for example.

Windows is not expensive for what it is.

Personally this post is so off topic it's untrue. Best thing would be to close it and everyone go back to there own little sand box.

Only thing that appeals to me about Apple products is their asthetic design. Beautiful looking pieces of kit.

There's nothing really at this moment from an OS/Available applications/gaming point of view would make me choose one over an equivalently specc'ed PC, which usually works out quit a bit cheaper to boot.

Oh dear this really has descended into mindless fanboyism. Why can't people just accept that others appreciate aspects of OSX and Apple products that they may not appreciate themselves. Also those who eulogise Apple need to realise that they aren't perfect and there are plenty of limitations to the platform. What really is grinding my gears are those in this thread who are so self-righteous that they feel the need to impose their opinions on others by calling people who use Macs as ignorant or simply using them for aesthetic purposes. Seriously...get off your high horses. This is becoming an all too apparent trend on OcUk nowadays which is quite sad.

Its quite funny seeing people getting the hump when apples products are referred to as fashion items, and then going on to say how they are worth oh so much more due to their looks.

There is nothing better then listening to the fanboys have a go at each other, great Friday entertainment. :D
