*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Yes, those deals are very good from MPD.

None of the handsets they send out are branded, they are all stock and just come with a simcard for your contract. (Unless something has changed)

Nice to see they've got them back in stock, and people aren't having to wait until the 2nd week of June!

Thanks, looks like that's the deal for me. Now to confirm that I do want (and need :p) the phone!

hey all, im buying a desire tomorrow direct from t-mobile, does anyone know if they are coming sim-locked from t-mobile?

I can't think of one good reason to go T-Mobile directly and not go via MPD/Mobiles.

I went in to a T-Mobile shop and said the exact same thing and how much better the deals were, and they couldn't answer me either, tried to say it's better to get it directly just "because it is" :D

I got hold of this phone from o2 as an upgrade instore today. I got £125 cashback through work as well, which is a bonus!

I'm at work at the moment so I'm going to wait until I get home before I try it to make sure everything is off my iPhone first. So tempting just to turn it on for a play though! :D

I can do that if needby skippi, but I think the one here -

http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire/

Is pretty self explanatory.

I agree though, a lot of this stuff needs to be simplified as the developers dont really think ahead as far as making guides etc accessible to everyone :p

Once you've done that, there's 10 steps here that actually put Froyo on the phone, you could modify that original guide to flash it and save putting an older ROM on first, but it's beneficial to the understand of the process -

1. Backup your phone with titanium or something
2. Backup your micro SD onto your comp
3. Format SD to FAT32
4. Copy DEfrost.zip to the SD.
5. If your Desire is still on, turn it off now.
6. Turn it on by holding the voulme down button and enter recovery mode.
7. Start recovery-windows.bat
8. Choose wipe and then wipe data/factory reset.
9. Pres volume down to get to the main menu.
10. Go and Flash the defrost.zip
11. Once finished choose reboot and enjoy Froyo.

Cheers for that Rob.

And what are the risks now then? I saw you posted that bricked Desires are recoverable now? So whatever happens, my Desire will live to tell the tale, right?

Yes, it's a (fairly) simple case of doing this - Modaco

It says about needing to be rooted (which you will be after part 5 of that guide), and even if you aren't, it's not difficult to un-brick without root access using the SD card and other methods, so yes, you can't break it anymore :p

Remember though, it's very unlikely you will have a problem to begin with, it's just very nice to know you are covered regardless!

I know its impossible to know for a fact but do people think the desire be higher spec than the new iphone (res/omoled, camera, cpu ect)?

or at this point is it better to just wait? :)

If the iPhone's new hardware is better, it won't be by much, and the software will ruin it as always :p

Good luck Skippi, any problems, give me a shout ;)

Never had an iphone (still on an n95).. but I know lots of people with iphones and they act like the OS is what makes the iphone the best on the market, so in what ways is it bad? :)

Or in what ways is Android better? I tried to look to see if there are any new high end HTC phones coming to the UK anytime soon and could not see any so it really is for me a choice of desire/android v iphone4g/whateveritruns :p

Screen is rumoured to be higher res but not OLED which is a real shame.

could someone on O2 give me their APN details? my 3g isn't working and need to reset the details.

thanks

Where would I find this?

The iPhone OS is simple and fairly easy on the eye, and marketed by Apple. That is why it is successful.

It falls short in every way of most other OS platforms when it comes to options/customisation/freedom. It is however very stable, due to the fact it's fairly simple in design :)

There aren't any HTC phones announced at the moment that will better the Desire. For the UK at least, I'd rather have a HTC EVO if I could get one working in the UK :(

I have an iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS, if I thought they were in any way better than Android phones (new ones), I'd be using them, but they are just simple phones for people who like simple things and are happy to pay over the odds for something.

That is not to say Android is more complicated than the iPhone, but it might require a bit of extra effort to do the occasional thing on it, that said, it does so many more things better, it's not really anything close to an issue. More like an advantage.
