People always say that about imperial (especially from other London unis), but its just not true. The social life is what you make of it at all universities and Imperial is no different, all my medic friends at imperial had a fantastic time as did I as a non-medic.

Pick a university on academic merit and reputation, and out of the ones he's listed Imperial is head and shoulders above the rest.

Well from my experience, a Barts medic is much more well-rounded than an Imperial medic and I think that's pretty important. Sure, academic wise they may be fantastic, but I'd personally rather have a doctor that was more than just a book...

One of the nicest engineering departments in the country

Either way I went to Plymouth in the end, better course (you get to dive!), 20 mins walk from the sea and 20mins drive from Dartmoor and the rest of Devon and Cornwall. Royal Holloway, even though surrounded by Royal parks just seems suburban by contrast.:p

May as well admit it, hold the laughs. I'm finishing off my undergrad business degree at Surrey Uni. Four weeks and I'll be finished and free.

I can't even begin to describe how much better Sheffield is than Plymouth... I spent 22 years escaping Plymouth, and now I'll probably be staying in Sheffield for most of the summer.

I disagree, yeah the city isn't Bath but its location is perfect and the city itself is a lot better than my home town. Sheffield on the other hand is up north (in the sense that it's miles from anything decent), massive and dark/dreary. Yeah if you're a clubber then maybe it's better but other than that Plym wins every time.:p

Plymouth's not amazing but it's probably not as bad as you think it is. It's good as a student definitely, but I can see your point about living there if you weren't a student. You have the same problem that I do with my home town, in that you hate it and want to get far away. I'm sure it's a pretty standard trait as a young man really.

Disagree strongly.

If I were going for medicine I'd only consider Imperial. I've met a lot of medics from there and they're all great people!

Literally the only pro Plymouth has is that it's next to the sea... but even then there's no beach RIGHT THERE, you need to go somewhere else. Yes, there's Dartmoor... but Sheffield's next to the Peak District...

Up north so away from anything decent? Plymouth's stuck in the south west, so is away from anything decent! :p (It's easier for me to get to gigs from here, than it would be from Plymouth... I can get to Manchester/Leeds/and so forth... etc).

Yeah there is no beach, but then I hate sand and it means I can go powerboating! As for the peaks, that was one of the plus points, but having since been I'm glad, it has nothing on Dartmoor. I have no want to go to any big city (If I want I can get to London in 20ish mins, but it depresses me) so the fact Plymouth is surrounded by nothing but emptyness, beaches and sea is great, Sheffield on the other hand is in the middle of a load of cities and that almost stinks as much as living half an hour from London!:p

I love the fact from a huge part of Plymouth you could see either the sea or Dartmoor and get to either within 20 minutes.

PS. I didn't live in Plymouth, I lived in Saltash, btw.
That explains it, Cornish scum. :p Not a huge fan of Saltash, it's quite nice there but such a pain to get to/from, especially at rush hour.:(

See, I'm the same Amp, but as of late (and you should see the odd turn around going by my past posts), I'm almost warming to the idea of living and working in London or another big mega-city.

I guess I'm just at that point in my life where I'm craving some excitement again!

Got to agree with Amp, Plymouth is brilliant, everything you need is there, it's a small city and everything is within walking distance. Nightlife is good enough and the university is great. Shame there is nothing worthwhile job wise down that neck of the woods or i may have stayed there. I go back to Plymouth in September for my final year so i'm happy about that. I'm not a fan of large uninspiring cities, such as the one i am stuck in. God i hate London, everyone is in a rush, it's depressing knowing i'll probably end up back here.

It doesn't really matter for medicine.

All doctors have to be trained to a minimum standard. So people should go to the place they feel comfortable, happy, and has a style of teaching that suits them :)

Well been looking at accomodation at Royal Hollway tonight. Prices make me want to cry. :(:p

I was under the impression that a lot of the Halls had double beds there, seems not however so I'm tempted to to see about private houses instead. Anyone been to Royal Holloway and know what the RUnnymead, Highfield and Gowar halls are like (noise as well)?

Never been in halls so it's a bit odd... :p
