NVIDIA brings a dual GTX 470 prototype to Computex, causes power shortages in Taipei

Even if this card is released and its reviewed by a site that doesn't just pander to nvidia's review criteria it will still be about 9 months too late and cost more than a 5970/cf5850.

Just a note, this is dual 465 not 470 (hence the 256 bit bus shown by only having 8 memory chips per GPU)

and even if it was dual 470, it wouldn't be 430w it would be more like 350w taking into account all the things which are removed or added when you put two GPU's on one card

To compare the price fairly I would say you would be nuts to pay over £240 for a 5850 and £290 for a 470 (stock versions).

The 470 is significantly more expensive than a 5850

Yes, but the thing is the Ati drivers are dire on ArmA2, so much so that I cannot get into our clan arma2 server.

I re-install my GTX260 and all is golden again.

So to me paying £20-£30 more knowing that nvidia simply "works with my games" is piece of mind for me.

I was about to reccomend the 5850 if your only going for a single card (when OC'd they are only 4-5% slower than an OC'd 5870) - but if your having issues with drivers in ArmA2 then you don't really have much choice. I still find it hard to reccomend a single GTX470 based on the price as well as performance but it will do the job.

Yeh I dunno. The GTX470 is £40 more than a 5850, but the driver support is far superior... probably worth it. My GTX260 is borderline at 1920 x 1200, thats the problem. The GTX260 is awesome, but my res is a little to much for it now.

I would agree with you. I had a gtx260 and the improvement to a 5850 (oc) was very noticable at 1920 x 1200.

And, like you say, probably worth the extra £40 to go Nvidia in your case.

Would be very interested in this card if they price it right. :)

Heat won't be an issue as I'll slap it under a waterblock. Power wouldn't be an issue (except the cost but meh) as I will be using a 1.5KW PSU.

And to think less than a year ago people mocked me for defending having 800W to 1000W psus ;)

And as for prices, we know that even if it came to market, the price would be wrong. Look how silly the gtx465 cards are. If if less than double the price (which it should be) it will be £450+ which is silly. You may as well buy a gtx480.

once thing i hate about pc`s is that with about an hour the room is getting uncomfortably hot, usually you have a pc in a spare room or bedroom. really wouldnt want 450+W just on the GPU let alone the overclocked 4 or 6 core needed to reduce to bottle neck.

i think ati`s lower tdp and more efficient cheaper design is the future, not the other way round. I can play on a 5850 and not see much rise in temps over my 5 yr old budget nvidia card !

if your room is getting uncomfortably hot I would advise moving out of the boiler room and get some decent coolers for your PC

£450 would be fine for me. Doubt it will be that cheap though.

Should obliterate the GTX 480 in performance so will likely command a ridiculously high price, if indeed it gets made at all.

Mind you, by the time it's released they may have dropped the price of the current cards.

One can hope anyway.

i have a decent cooler now but on a summers night it doesnt help the room get cool by having 4 LCD`s and two pc`s running + audio amp :p
