I've found at lower leagues, nothing whatsoever can beat mass carrier :P

Either they don't have proper defences/they don't know what to do and auto attack the interceptors/don't have enough stalkers-hydras-etc.

Amass a fleet of 8-12 carriers, research gravitational catapult, build interceptors and off ya go.

dunno how people die to carriers, their so weak against most T2 units.
in all these games a little bit of scouting wins you the games. not much skill to 3v3/4v4

idk how you manage to get to carriers without dying. I'm in the lower leagues and I'm doing very popular strats that high level players do, but I still don't win many games. I don't get matched with people bad enough to let me mass carriers, and I'm in bronze. :(

Unless you're not taking about 1v1?

had a silly protoss try this on me. Was playing as zerg, so by the time the first carrier arrived at my main i had 2 other expos up and was already pumping out a tonne of hydralisks. Easy win :p

No I mean 1vs1, and I reckon it'd only be best to do mass carrier if you are ranked lower than 25ish in Bronze.

Basically, just keep trying and the main thing is to improve your speed. It's not really about what the pro players do, although they can give some good ideas, but basically find something that works for you.

  • Have at least 2 probes on each mineral patch, 3 on each gas geyser, avoid clicking as much as possible when building..uhm what else...

  • Have around 6-8 gateways, make sure they're all converted to warp gates and don't forget to warp in units as soon as CD is over.

  • Have at the very least 2-3 observers, one at his base, one at your main, and one at your expansion. I'd also recommend sending another observer with any major attack you do.

  • I've found the more you play, the better you get. When I first started SC2 I never used sentry's, but now I have at least 4 with every army. Micro takes a while to get used to, but again, practice makes perfect.

  • What I like to do is bind my army to 1 (Select them all and press ctrl+1), my sentry's to 2 (So i can quickly forcefield/guardian shield), stalkers to 3 (So i can blink around fast), and High templars -if any- to 4 (quick storms).

  • Oh, it's also a big help if you research upgrades like weapons and armour 1 (at least) at the forge

  • Finally, build a few cannons around your base, as they are invalaable detectors and static defense if some enemies manage to get in and make a beeline for your minerals.
Hope that helps mate. Although I'm not very good myself, those are basically the key things that got me from ~75 in bronze to ~30 in silver.

My email is in trust, if you wanna add me as a friend feel free to do so, I'll give you some games whenever =)

you'll get better the more games you lose scotty, just keep practising, play against players that are better than you whenever possible is my advice.
keep in mind all the standard, easy stuff that most people forget...
Scouting
Constant building of workers
Expanding
Map Control
Reacting to what the other player is doing
Army Composition

it makes me mad when you loose your army trying to help a team mate defend his base in 4v4 , when a larger force attacks and your army gets wiped out and then your team mate calls you a noob and are crap at sc2 while the other 2 team mates does very little . i mean wtf are these players thinking ?

Just one of the joys of random, would've thought you'd be used to it by now with the amount of 4v4's you've played :)

Also I think a lot of newer players tend to go for the team games now as it can be less intimidating than 1v1 so you're bound to bump into more of them.

if you guys wanna make an ocuk 4v4 team im game :) im sure it would be beneficial to some players here :)

some tips in a practice match for the newer players ? , even tips for longer time players of the beta would be good . would help me and others to see where they are going wrong

I still havent learnt how to stop early pylon building near your base then bombarding your with cannons. Do you chase with 4 probes and risk economy and destroy the probe and pylon?

I ignored one and want for gateway and zealots and they got wasted by cannons when attacking the pylon. I left it longer, got 4 stalkers out but 4 cannons killed them

it is a pain when players do that , had it myself and i got fed up with trying to destroy them so iquit the game lol

One time I kept getting matched with a platinum player when I was just starting as bronze, and he kept laughing at me and in general being a ****. On the 4th game I did this to him, and It was quite funny he had no response. Nonetheless it's an unfair tactic and don't get tempted into doing it!

I find the best way to deal with this as protoss is:

Build your first pylon and gateway on your ramp (almost like a wall off), and make sure you're alert and watching the minimap. If you see an enemy probe sneak into your base then vanish, you know what he's going for, in which case you can chronoboost out a couple of zealots and kill the pylon/probe.

If however he's already got cannons down, it's not worth trying to defend (unless they're very far away from your probes/buildings) since by the time you get enough units to kill it, your opponent will be miles ahead of you and you'll end up losing anyway.

If this happens, just say "just so you know, tactics like that is what ruins bnet. Learn to play properly." or something similar, then leave.

My numbered tasks are things you must do and if you do them Optimally you will be in great shape. The Points with Astrixes (*) next to them are additional steps you may need to take if things don't go well.

1) Keep your build order more or less the same ( you may need to lob down a forge early and the odd cannon if things don't go well but if they go well keep to your build)
2) Kill the probe use 2-3 probes if you must. Chances are the little **** will be running around lobbing down a new pylon or cannon every few seconds so try to have one probe chasing and a few moving around anticipating his movements to pincer him.
3) Kill the cannon with 3-4 probes per cannon before it spawns (the closer it is to spawning before you attack the more probes you use (get complete surround if necessary)
4) Build army/scout for any more proxies, and attack early (even 2 zealots in their base will give them no end of misery)
5) kill enemy pylon (don't want any enemy units warping in)
*) build your own cannon in range of their pylon (build 2 if needs be)
*) build pylon and cannon at your choke to prevent any more annoying probes getting in

Remember the cost for them to put a pylon in your base is 1 zealot. The cost of a cannon is a gateway. If they are throwing down 1+ pylons and 1+ cannons early in your base then they are hurting their economy or their army. Punish them for their cheesy tactics by counter attacking at the soonest opportunity. I have seen some players just say "To hell with your cannon BS" and run by the cannons and hit the enemy mineral line. The cannons soon stop being made.

Oh and I hate proxy pylons too.

seeing as the beta ends in 4 days what say we have an OcUK sc2 beta tournament? We could see who would be willing to come and have a separate tourny for each ladder, so only bronzes play bronzes, silvers vs silvers, etc.

Nice idea, but isn't it a bit late to organise something like that with only 4 days left?

It is the weekend coming up so hopefully people coud squeeze in a few games :)

I doubt we'd have enough people in each league for seperate tournies. Everyone's name in a hat then draw for knockout stages. Or a small league and a round robin so everyone plays everyone once may be better if only 5 or 6 people join in.

If not just try an meet up for some team games for fun, feel free to message me ingame to join parties for team games or 1v1, I just play Terran atm.

only issue I can see with that is the higher ranked players playing the beginners :P

id love to take part :)

however i don't think we could do it in league, how many other Diamond players are there in ocuk? id imagin Kreee being one, but anybody else?
