OK I haven't seen this thread in a few hours but jut to prove I am not talking out of my arse, someone elses words and not mine, what would I need to show to prove I am not disingenuous?
What kind of salary do you think would support getting up to a 50k car, as a general rule of thumb? Again I know this is a how long is a piece of thread question and dependent on outgoings but generally there will be a correlation with income bands and the cost of the car being driven (maybe possibly!).
Besides posting part of my payslip I am not sure what else I can do. Maybe I will get a rude awakeneing and find out I don't earn enough for the cars I like but I think the sums add up.
To answer other posters I am actually a city professional in the square mile (not banking though). I have a maths degree and I graduated five years ago this July/August. My student loan of just under 10k will be paid off by the end of the year.
I am in no rush to pay it off. It will be gone soon enough. I own a house but it is rented out and the rent covers the mortgage. I think I am very lucky as most people my age don't own properties full stop let alone above average house price houses.
I have no intention of moving out yet and I wouldn't unless I was in a serious relationship.
I wouldn't do the one night stand or short term gf thing even if it was offered out on a plate to me. I was planning the car as a bit of a treat for the hard work over the last few years.
And like I said before after the house purchase I don't have 50k in cash right now, that would need finance. But that amount would be in reach early to mid next year.
All my posts have been from my iPhone today as I can't use my pc so spelling and post structures have been a little off.
And even if I could post credible evidence people would just say I was willy waving and I am sure if it is sufficently anonomised people would just say I am a fraud. If anyone here works close to bank station drop me a email for a coffee and you can see how serious I am.
People who buy and drive £50k cars don't care what other people think.
He also says his debt was 9k though, a lot less than most peoples after uni. I guess he was on the old system and lived at home through uni, or supported himself. Either way you wouldn't have to be earning that much to have it paid off by 25, not enough to be considering a 50k car IMO.
On very rough calculations you would need over 40k pa to have paid it off by 25 since graduation. But it gets messy when including salary increases etc so just very rough.
Since the average wage is circa 20-25k I am supposing most 25yrs olds
aren't earning a 40k salary on average between
graduation and 25? ( ignoring earl repayments as I did not pay any)
Since you posted it how much do you need to earn before considering a 50k car??
Wasnt it housey that said you literally need to be making in the 150k+pa to comfortably run 50k cars?

Just humour me here...
That depends on the £50k car.
Something like a Nissan GTR is going to cost a bomb to run. Tyres are £500... Each !! so thats £2000 in the first year just for tyres
Other cars at 50k... Like say a Porsche Cayman S arent going to be nearly as expensive to run.
Also, since your asking questions about how much of a good idea the £50,000 thing is, you need to take account for how much of that will be finance and how much will cash. Judging by the fact your 10k student loan is not paid off, im guessing you dont have £40,000 in cash lieing about.
If your going to be borrowing £20,000 and up, then id say the £50k budget is silly.
If you are serious then I would say maybe a BMW M6?
Very fast car for not very much money

Not for the preformance you get out of it. 0-62 in 4.4 seconds
