Ah you diamond ;)

There are a few... the best is really a personal preference... look at the descriptions and screenshots of the various roms and pick which one you like the look of the most

Is McR 3.1 the best one to flash it with?

I saw your email, just watching the England warm up game on Sky Sports News :p

3.1 is your best bet I think, you won't lose sense or anything like that, so just shove it on there :)

Your other option is Pays Sparta ROM, which has no Sense UI and has a lot of stuff removed from it, but it's faster!

Does anyone have the desire-root-alt.zip package they could upload? The mirror on the modacos guide is taking forever :o

Cheers

I might have a play around with both ROMs and see what I like best. I can always go back to the stock one right?

I think I now have the 0.8 bootloader after the OTA update.

Can anyone recommend a decent guide for rooting (I am running Windows 7 x64 if that makes a difference).

Yeah you always can, although I don't see a single reason to use the stock one over the MoDaCo ROM!

Modaco Guide - A bit faster, but somewhat vague - http://android.modaco.com/content/h...e-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/

Nimbu Guide - More in depth and probably easier for you to follow - http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire/

Once rooted, flash McR - http://android.modaco.com/content/h...ustom-rom-for-htc-desire-with-online-kitchen/

Any questions, ask ;)

This is a worry I have the below:

Name - OS MOBILE WEB
APN - mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy - Not set
Port - Not Set
Username - O2web
Password - ****
Server - Not Set
MMSC - Not Set
MMS Proxy - Not Set
MMS Port - Not Set
MMC - 234
MNC - 10
Authentication Type - Not Set
APN Type - Default

Thats all under Access Point Names/ O2 MOBILE WEB?

Is this correct?

Someone is writing a ocuk-ified guide IIRC above?

Sparta ROM contains the hTC COntacts and Phone application which are both very good, it also contains the stock 2.1 dialer and contacts applications. You will be prompted on what to use when you click on various contact functions of course and choose the default if you want.
With Sparta I now have 37MB of internal memory free, that's with the same apps installed as with the SenseUI ROM (MCR 3.1 or stock) but with those roms I had 22MB free!

APN Backup & Restore will backup your APN settings to an xml file :)

That doesn't look like the MMS profile, just the web profile, I just picked the first link off google, you're probably better off just ringing 02 and getting the right settings from them to be honest.

So, my phone came, but I don't seem to be able to do anything. I can't send messages, make calls, or get on the internet. I can recieve calls and messages, but that's it.

Am I just being retarded? Do I need to register my SIM and link it to my account or something? I've got a new number, no PAC code or anything...

First smartphone for me, as you can probably tell :p
