Will you be swaping the Desire for an iPhone4?

If you are swapping a Desire for an iPhone, you've probably got the Desire for the wrong reason to begin with, or can't use it properly :(

Seeing that you can't have had it more than one or two months to begin with.

I already said I have had it two days. I really did assume the new iphones hardware would be very underwhelming and I never imagined it would have a 720p camcorder, 40% better battery and a redesign on the antenna.

I am a PC gamer and just don't research apple period. I thought it was just going to be faster add some loltastoc features and have a 5mp cam.. gods honest truth.

Everyone was saying the desire was awesome and I wanted an upgrade from the n95. How was I meant to have known it would be inferior at picking up 3g-3.5g

edit: can't use it properly? WTH? Everything I have mentioned has been mainly hardware except the comment that the games were lacking. How would having infinite customisation knowledge change any of what I have mentioned?

I wasn't aiming my comment at you Hooa, if your problem is with the aerial there's not a lot I can say to that :p

I've found mine fine.

Fair enough. Sorry if I seem angry. Its my first upgrade in like 3 years  I mean I have bought it outright so it was a fair chunk of money and was not expecting ANY disappointment whatsoever haha

I agree there, all these new phones fall short in areas such as signal/battery and so on. Been the case for years now, I hope it starts to get better :p

dont think you will get 40% more battery life by using that 720p cam and gaming on that higher res screen =P

tbh it would be a complete waste of money to swap the desire for an almost complete side grade to the iphone 4.

iPhone 4 Battery vs Desire:
Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G / WCDMA: Up to 6.5 hours
Up to 14 hours on 2G / GSM: Up to 6.6 hours

Standby time: Up to 300 hours / 340-360 hours

Internet use:
Up to 6 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi

Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

doesnt list the others on the HTC site so make ur own call.

I don't know if I will because of the financial cost but if someone was to say for free I am pretty sure I would for the reasons I mentioned.

My brother has went from a HTC touch (I think it was) to a iphone 3g to a desire about a month ago. He is now a massive android fan but deep down I know he would like the android OS to be on the new iphone4 hardware haha :D

oh yeah being able to sync the current pictures from friends facebooks into my phonebook is pretty cool :) Anything else like that I might be missing?

syncing phone numbers and emails is pretty sweet (bascially same idea as pics)

within 5 mins of having a new number i had 85% of all my friends numbers instantly.

dont knock the customization either, making the phone completly applicable to u and the way u use the phone is a real strength.

real multitasking is also great, jumping from email, to text, to web, to app, to calls without worrying about it is very nice.

Well could I please have the loud speaker button nowhere near the hang up button lol.

Could it be set to physical buttons to answer and set loudspeaker?

edit just tried the facebook phone number sync and no one came up apart from a few people I never wanted anyway :D Still pretty cool though!

i dont know...ive honestly never found it an issue with loudspeaker.

if you rooted the phone you may be able to, dont count on it though.

The only real new thing it's bringing to the table is the highest resolution screen i've seen on a mobile, but is all that DPI really needed?
Of course not. Apple would have us all believe it's revolutionary and are calling it the "Retina Screen". In reality the only reason it's that resolution is because it's exactly double that of previous iPhones in each direction, so they can just pixel-double legacy apps for compatiblity.

I'm sure the screen is very nice but it's not going to be appreciably better or different to the Desire.

Well I've just sold my Desire to get the new iPhone. Desire is great but I found it frustrating: poor battery life. Build quality very plastic. Poor screen with magenta tinge issues. Poor ms exchange integration (no html based email using exchange 2003). Constant issues with data connectivity chomping battery life in poor reception areas and also blocking calls coming through when trying to retrieve data. App support dire compared to app store and looks like it was designed on a zx spectrum (last time I checked the second most popular app was an app for jehovah witnesses?) poor integration with contacts and errors assigning Facebook contacts to random people (id receive texts that the desire thought were from friends but actually from random companies?)

And the clock can't even update it's own; you have to refresh the phone and wait a few seconds for the time to update. Whats that all about?!

I had 3 desires. Each one had slightly different build quality.

The list goes on.

I want a phone that just works, has good app support for the occasions where id rather be entertained than fixing/rooting/modding/rebooting. The iPhone does this for me.

Horses for courses.

how much did you sell it for? I agree with a lot of what you are saying but I don't know, part of me likes the rubbery back as I feel I can use it without a case whereas most iphone people have horrible looking cases over the top.

£352 on eBay. It was a brand new one, the 3rd faulty exchange. I thought rather than use it I'd sell unused to get top dollar.

Several of those issues are network related so you will have the same probs with the iphone. As for battery i was "tricked" by apples 3GS having a massive boost in battery life which never happened so ill never go by any manfactures figures, but at least with a desire you can purchase a 2nd batt for about £15 or even a high cap one so batt life shouldnt be an issue.

Think I will see how the froyo update goes before and if I make the jump, but I bought the phone for apps really not to constantly fiddle with it.
