*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

try running the SU command and logging in as root user.

It will ask you for a password, believe it will be blank for a LiveCD so hit enter.

Then try to run the command. :)

./recovery-linux.sh

Ok this is what the command line is

root@ubuntu:/home/ubuntu/Desktop/pushfiles# ./recovery-linux.h

Still gives me the error "Insufficient permissions for device"

By the way, how would I turn my phone off when I'm on the red triangle screen? The power button doesn't work.

Pull the battery, just unplug it from USB before you do, it wont hurt it if the phone isn't doing anything.

Show them your home screen, then laugh as they have just a boring application menu to look at past the lock screen :p

lol they have seen my windscreen washer raining homescreen already and I shown them the google maps street view compass thing but then I got a bit stuck.

It's all in good humour but I just know 24th June onwards will be unbearable  The people who don't know much just spout what they've heard and are hard to debate with and the ones that are clued up know far more about their phone than I do about mine so I can't win either way!

No one is on the fence apart from me and I default against apple out of principle even if I am not convinced of my choice myself haha!

So c'mon give me some ammo. I tried browsing the android thread but I don't know if something is good for that android phone at the time but my new htc android phone has a superior version of it already installed or the stuff is all boring like calenders ect.

Well on the 24th of June they will have virtually nothing new to show you from a software point of view.

Anything they show you, you can do better. There's far too much to list :p

Can you not get some kind of augmented reality app?

If not wait until 2.2 and show them flash.

But the things I had like hey look at me pick the track and cut it to the size I want for my ringtone or folders ect I don't have any more.

Um put it another way what makes your friends go "That's pretty cool" or you personally think is pretty cool. Not for what the whole of the Android OS has to offer but for yourself :)

AndWobble has won many of my friends hearts. :p

Google Navigation with Street View Compass is pretty dandy.

There won't be that much in the way of apps that you can show off really due to Apple still having a better app store at the minute, but I'm sure there are plenty.

Pretty much everything about the home screens and how they work should impress them, it's leaps ahead of anything on the iPhone, and will still be leaps ahead of the new iPhone with regard to customisation.

Still, if they are true iPhone fanboys then they will rubbish what you are showing them as "over-complicated hassle" :D Because it's hard!

haha I will be getting that one right now!

Okay I was thinking maybe there were some really cool apps that the dictatorship had banned from being published for whatever reason :D

Yeah I will just have to try find some real time to customise it properly and get the most out of it. I think I have went into this blind with the knowledge Android is better and wrongly thinking there were lots of instant gratification reasons as to why :p

Un-USB Brick HTC Desire

Right, this is my slightly expanded version of the instructions at Modaco on what to do if your Desire gets USB Bricked.

THIS WORKED FOR ME, BUT I MAKE NO GUARANTEES IT WILL WORK IN ALL CASES. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. IT'S NOT MY FAULT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG!!!! :p

First, if your Desire is stuck in a boot screen loop (you get the HTC Quietly Brilliant Screen, then a blank screen, then the HTC screen again, then a blank screen etc...) you will need to do the first step of rooting again.

To Un-USB Brick HTC Desire:
1. Hold down the back button, and then turn on your Desire
2. Make sure the screen shows FASTBOOT. If it doesn’t, choose it from the options available
3. In command prompt go to the folder on your computer where you downloaded and extracted the Android SDK to
4. At the command prompt type ‘fastboot oem boot’
5. If you know that you don’t have access to the SD card when your phone loads up, also type the command ‘ fastboot oem enable qxdm 0’
6. The bit you need from the information displayed in the CID. Look for something like ‘INFOCID is O2___001’. In this case, my CID is ‘O2___001’
7. On your phone go to Settings>About phone>Software Information and note your Software Number. Mine was 1.21.405.1
8. Now turn off the phone and take the SD card out and put it in your computer
9. Go to http://ks33673.kimsufi.com/misc/ and put in the details from steps 6 & 7.
10. Download the file it creates
11. Get the flash image from http://www.shadowchild.nl/flash_image
12. Put both of these on the SD card
13. Put the SD Card back in your Desire and turn it on
14. Go to the Market and download a terminal emulator. I used ConnectBot
15. Run Connectbot. In the bottom left corner where it says ‘ssh’ click on the triangle. Choose ‘locall and put in anything for your nickname.
16. Now enter the following commands EXACTLY as they are shown below, pressing enter after each one
17. su
18. cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
19. cat /sdcard/mtd0.img > /data/mtd0.img
20. chmod 755 /data/flash_image
21. /data/flash_image misc /data/mtd0.img
22. Reboot your Desire, and it should all work again!

Could someone upload the wallpaper that is being used for this desires homescreen please or link me to a website that has it, it's for a samsung I5700, screen resolution is 320 x 480:

htc_bravo-300x336.jpg

Thanks in advance.

That is the Bravo prototype, and I've not seen a wallpaper like that on any of my HTC phones before, so don't get your hopes up. :p

It is difficult to see what it is though as well.

I've actually got some (not sure if it's all of them) of the HTC Rosie Wallpapers in a file, uploaded it here for you (and others that may want them) :)

There is a dark one maybe a bit like the one you've asked for.

http://rapidshare.com/files/396871008/rosie-htc-wallpaper.zip.html

It can only be downloaded 10 times so if there's somewhere else you'd like it uploading just say so ;)

Well I'm due an upgrade on Orange now and am going to order a Desire when I get back to the UK (this weekend) and just had a couple of questions to start with..

Any reason I shouldn't go with an Orange one? I might replace the battery cover with a non-branded HTC one

Any reason I shouldn't immediately just update it to the latest HTC ROM as soon as I get it out of the box?

What are the 'must-have' apps to install to start with? I love customising stuff so I'm sure in time I'll be arsing around with all sorts, mind!

What car cradles/holders are people recommending?

Thanks :)

Well im back to a non-rooted Desire :(

Long story short, playing with baby on beech, water, small pockets :(

Got the phone replaced fine when i got back from holiday, but now i have an ugly o2 splash screen and carn't root it :(

The reason i cannot root it is because i now need a gold card ( I didn't before :( ) And there is a known issue with gold cards and the mem cards you get with the phones and my only choice is to get a scandisk (i think)

And wedding/hooneymoon has made me broke this month so going to have to wait till next month :(

Shame as i was looking at XDA while i was away and seen 2.2 had been sorted DAM IT!!! lol
