*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

A bit premature given it is only june! Especially with the iPhone 4 round the corner (although I would say the desire is probably better....well android betters iOS4 imo...hardware/looks the iphone 4 definitely trumps the desire)

interesting point up until recently its been android hardware > iphone hardware but iPhone software>android software, but the new iphone looks pretty gd. i wonder if we could install froyo on it...

For some reason my mobile internet has stopped working on Orange. Had a look in APN settings and my Orange Internet profile is called orangeinternet_off and things like username and password are blank. Any ideas how this could have happened and how to fix it?

You using any widgets that cut the APN? It will say _off when you use those.

i just purchased an unlocked one from the bay for £300, lot of dosh but selling my BB 9700 for £250 so not bad for an upgrade. What do i do first guys? must have apps or addons?

Read the apps thread, there's too many to mention and it's hard to recommend "essential" ones because we don't know the manner in which you use the phone.

£300 is a pretty good price though, so you can be happy with that. So long as it's not "on it's way" from Nigeria :p

Wow, this phone is awesome, all rooted, Modaco rom installed some additional from appbrain, HTC have to do better at advertising !

HTC are actually advertising quite a lot, it's Google who aren't. Once Froyo is sorted out though, their focus will turn to it, along with the Market.

I may have under estimated the Sparta rom's battery life to begin with. My phone has been unplugged for 14hours now and I have 76% battery left!! That's with light use, couple of short phone calls, 10 or so texts and browsing the internet for about half an hour. Wifi has been switched on most of the time today aswell!

Part of me thinks the percentage is wrong lol! Currently using Helix launcher is it came with Sparta. Liking it a lot, didn't think I would get along with the coloured icons on the bottom but I quite like them now.

Just used the Goldcard method to remove my Orange crap and get a standard ROM on there.

Taken 2 hours but finally there after teething probelms with syncing and error 171. Gotta love forums though, always someone with an answer and solution to a problem.

Will get used to the phone for a bit then consider a rooted ROM once I'm more comfortable with the process, or just wait for this froyo thing.

Now, if I were to try something like this Sparta ROM, is this all ok with my Orange device that has been goldcarded with a standard HTC ROM or is it more difficult for me?

Once you are rooted, the fact your device was branded doesn't matter at all.

(As far as I know, the goldcard etc is just for the root process)

did you root the phone or just debrand it? if it's just debranding then you still need to root before you can flash custom roms etc. but you wouldn't need to use the gold card for the rooting as you're on a 'standard' unbranded rom.

Well last night i tried again to root.

This time using Linux for the OS, but still the same error.

So i think it's safe to say now it's deffo the goldcard. And my sandisk should be here today, so i "should" have better look tonight :)

I refuse to be beaten!

Have you tried re-making the gold card? Could have entered the numbers wrong during the image making, or just a copy and paste error.

Worth a shot. :)

I just debaranded it using the Goldcard method to install the standard HTC ROM. Now I realise that isn't the rooting process.

Don't worry, will go and research into this porerply until I'm confident with what I'm doing.

This sparta ROM looks good though!

Done it a couple of times. Grr.

I did mine through the XPMode VM under W7 64 bit. You are doing through the Desire in disk mode and not through a card reader?

The first time I did it through a card reader and got the error. Re did through the Desire and worked first time.

Reformat the SD Card, take it out, replace it again, etc.

Could be to do with that, failing that, reflash the ROM as something is clearly corrupted.

Just taking my stuff out and will reformat it and put stuff back soon.

I did everything through my phone, my card reader still on order!

On a side note, the Sparta ROM has only one wallpaper built in, where do I have to put them to get them to appear in the "Wallpaper gallery" option to change them? What size should they be?
