*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Yes, if you root it it will look and feel "normal" but you have options to add extras like Titanium backup.

But you can also go the next step and add a custom rom, these range from ones that look just like the standard HTC Sense interface but with the bloatware removed and extra bits added to custom roms that are based on the standard Android with no HTC Sense.

I went with a Rom that looks like the standard HTC interface (I like Sense) but has some extras but also has things removed giving you more memory space and its also quicker and the battery lasts longer than before.

Im using Pays 1.5 but he has just updated it to version 2.0 so ill probably flash with that later tonight.

Decided to root as I had to do a hard reset on my phone to try and fix the fault where my phone wont "see" the new HTC update and, even using MyBackup, it kind of screwed up settings.

Using root so I can use MyBackup and Titanium Backup properly....

Problem is I only have the SD card that came with the phone so I have had to back that stuff up and use this as a goldcard and then reformat it back later....

1 question... when it says

Put the microSD card in your device and boot it.
Ensure you have unzipped the SDK, then open a command prompt to the extract location. Change to the 'tools directory.

What exactly does it mean ??

boot into it how ??

edit: tried it using cmd prompt from windows, changed to the phones tools directory and it says "device not found"

Got me Goldcard ready to roll.... only another 4 hours to get the bootloader file :/

Only 1 prob I see (mebbe not) is that it states to reboot the phone with a non-goldcard SD card in it (near the end)... I dont have such a thing now as I only have the SD card that came with the phone which is now the temp Goldcard and I have no card reader to put into my lappy to reformat...

Will the phone boot without an SD card or will it be ok to keep the goldcard in it at the last stage ?? :/

Sorry guys but I don't have time to read 78 pages. What is happening with the Video out of sync issues on the Desire? Is there an update to fix this yet? For those that don't know/haven't seen it, try watching a video streamed over wifi (i.e. youtube) and the audio and video are not in sync. Apparently this happens on all videos as well though people have said. If there is no update for this I will have to send it back.

It is just the standard modaco rom, I just checked for updates and it said there were none available,

I just rooted then flashed, I'm still on boot loader 0.75 I believe, have I missed something?

From what I've experienced, it's only Youtube videos and poorly encoded videos that suffer from this. I have encoded my own vids and there is no sync issue whatsoever, and some of those vids are over 2 hours long.

I also only have the one card, and I'm pretty sure I just left the goldcard in it rather than remove it.

"Only" youtube vids? Oookaay. I need ALL vids to be in sync. No other phones have this problem. There are quite a few people complaining of this issue on the net. i.e. Android forums. I checked software version and my phone is not up to date but it doesn't find an OTA update on my phone despite that there is one available. My phone is on O2 so not sure if this makes a difference.

Only, as in clearly either an app issue, or codec issue which can be easily sorted. If it is as common as you say, then I'd expect a fix very soon. I think it's down to Android's vid streaming software as it's not out of sync when using Flash on 2.2

Just went to play something from BBC iPlayer and no vids work in that they say "this type of flash content is not supported". Getting frustrated now. Doh.

So I finished the rooting (I think)...

I take it if the "HTC, quietly brilliant" comes up with a musical tone, its rooted ??

Interestingly enough, my internet icon has been replaced with Virgin ?? How do I change this ??
