Valve has a surprise for us..

Was it just me that thought Gabe's presentation had an apologetic tone. I'm pretty sure he was ready to duck in case things got thrown at the stage...

I'm wondering about the "Portal 2 will be the best console version!" comment el chubbo made.

Xbox, Wii versions? Was it just a poorly constructed nod to the PC owners?

I noticed that too. Was that a nod against the Xbox360?

Portal 2 coming to PS3 is good news for PS3 owners, but I wish something was coming for PC owners aswell...

If Valve of all people are moving to the PS3 then it's safe to say that PC gaming is nearing the end. I have both and like them in different ways but without games, what's the point. If Valve have joined the PS3 side of things then that's probably their way forward.

I would prefer there never to be a Half-Life 3 than there to be a multi-platform generic FPS with the name Half-Life 3 bolted on. Far Cry 2 anyone? It was an OK game but if they had called it 'Roland goes to the jungle", no one would have likened it to Far Cry.

This is the biggest drama queen post I've seen.

Steam is on PS3 so suddenly PC gaming is near the end?

Then somehow you leap to Valve not existing and someone else making Half Life 3 (as you compared it to Far Cry 2)

Just brilliant seriously.

Well whats your view on all of this?

It doesn't bother me that much as I have both platforms.

I think the announcement is a disappointment (obviously as 99% were expecting a PC related announcement) but I don't see why this means the end of PC gaming. The Orange Box, L4D and L4D2 are on both 360 and PS3 and that hasn't meant the end to Valve's interest in PC gaming. Nothing wrong with a company wanting to have their games/services on multiple platforms, in this day and age there is no reason to have your work stuck on one platform.

You big queen

Wait this was a news announcement as part of sonys media moment?

I reckon there is more to come from valve, theres a lot more of E3 still to come, tomorrow in particular where the daily plan is mostly filled with "Confidential (TBA)" stuff, im going to be uncharactaristicly optimistic and say i don't think we've seen all of what valve has to offer this E3

Just to point out, despite my disappointment, neither of the L4D games are on the PS3. :)

After the Orange Box, Valve threw a hissy fit saying that the PS3 was too hard to code for.

Ragers in this thread are hilarious! Especially all the "I'll never buy on Steam again" remarks.

Valve announce a Portal 2 themed surprise and give one. Now you're raging because it's not what you want?

Portal 2 will still be best on PC, Valve will continue to pour their efforts into the PC market. Just because they want to reach out to people that couldn't play their games before they're now stabbing all PC gamers in the back? Get over yourselves.

"We're bringing steam to consoles, automatic updates, steamcloud"
Not exactly innovation there is it, automatic updates to console games.
¬_¬

I'm very curious how they will handle the comples moves required for portal games, generall console gamers have a harder time aiming and being quick to focus a "crosshair" to locations. If left in it's current state I can see lots of consolers getting frustrated. No doubt a system will be put in place to aid in this disability.
