Valve has a surprise for us..

pc gamers made valve in the early years , now the pc gamer is beeing shafted

How are you being shafted? How does giving other people the chance to experience these games shaft you?

God some of you lot sound like the PS3 fanboys who demanded that Capcom cancel the Devil May Cry 4 360 version because of their "loyal support".

I mean what's the difference to PC users if it's on PC/360 or PC/360/PS3?

The difference is that a once a game becomes multi-platform, the main concentration is on the console versions. The PC market is very small compared to consoles. The PC version is never that much better.

Valve have been multi-platform for quite some time now. Or is this a delayed response?

how many of these comments made by people who only play games on consoles and only use the pc for viewing the web ?

nothing new from valve for the pc

Valve made Valve, because they make excellent games.

I'm not a console person, I've always been a PC Gamer but they don't owe anyone anything. They got to where they are through working hard, making great games, forward thinking and having a successful business model.

I'd be gutted if they spent less time on the PC platform but it's their business at the end of the day unfortunately. :p

This is called greedy. a top pc company starts f*ing it's fans.

Stupid Valve.

Why are pc gamers being shafted now? Valve have been putting their games on consoles Since 2001. Why whine now?

Why not whine at the Xbox version of Counter Strike? Or the Orange box? Or L4D1/2?

Hell Half-Life: Decay had some PS2 exclusive content. Ever heard of Colette Green and Gina Cross? Unlikely as their story never made it to the PC, you have to download it as a mod.

If anything Valve have done shafted the PC gamer it's that, nearly 10 years ago

Check my steam profile and you'll see that I'm anything but a person that only plays games on consoles. I'll still buy Portal 2 or any other Valve game on Steam.

The whole "omg valve are screwing us!" attitude just stinks of toys out of the pram. They owe you nothing, get over yourselves.

Half Life was ported to Playstation 2

I don't think Valve are shafting anyone, they make games and release them on as many formats as possible.

Surely the more people that have the opportunity to play Valve games can only be a benefit to all gamers.

how is the ps3 version of say hl2 going to benefit the pc ? , more to the point how many of you were still in nappies when the first hl was released :p . i am a pc gamer and always shall be ,but more and more devs seem to be forgetting the pc gamer and favoring the console market because it is easier to develop for . how many new games are ported to the pc from the console version and started out pc only ?

More importantly, how many VALVE games have been ported from a console version? Seeing as how you say Valve have 'shafted' you. None? Didn't think so.

Valve never said the surprise was PC related in the first place.

The PS3 release will funnel more cash towards Valve, a company that makes great games, for the PC, and now consoles too.

I don't have a problem with it as long as the ports are from the PC to the Consoles and not the other way round.

How is it going to have a negative effect to the PC version? If anything, more sales = more revenue for Valve to make games with.

Not me, not that it matters in anyway at all to this discussion.

i am a pc gamer and always shall be,

Good for you, again how does this effect Portal 2 and Valve?

I think you'll find Valve are doing it this way around.

valve no longer make great games .they make poor multiplayer games that can be made as fast as poss and fix the bugs later .now they seem to be favouring the console market and saying nothing about the pc side of things , nevermind saying valve are this valve are that .they are forgetting the most important platform that made them , if it was not for the pc valve would not be here end of . ok i give up now as i am not getting my opinion across to some people

Speak with your wallet. Don't buy their games then.

I can barely understand your posts, let alone your opinion.

I can see your opinion, but it is not founded on any sort of truth at all.

You say that they just make 'poor multiplayer games now'. Would these be the same games that receive critical acclaim?

What do you want to see from Valve? A new IP? Single player?

And if this new single player game is made, does it have to be PC exclusive?

If so, why?

From what I can see, Valve are still making top-notch games for the PC first and foremost, and THEN, porting from PC to console. And to be fair, quite poorly to console compared to it's PC counterpart. Valve are, and always will be a PC developer at heart.

I've been exclusively a PC Gamer for almost 10 years now but starting to find the community awfully bitter, elitist and quick to judge (although rightfully so in certain cases). Valve are clearly expanding their target audience at the moment, first with Mac and now PS3 and I don't think I have to go into mechanics of a business.

Forgetting who made them in a first place? That's a rubbish argument, they made some great games, we paid for them and most of us thoroughly enjoyed them. They do not owe us a thing, some of their games provided me with best value for money I've spent. This is like saying that our previous colonies and commonwealth should bow down to the might of Britain because we "made" them what they are now. Argument simple doesn't work and quite frankly rubbish, it's history that's been and gone.

Sure I'm disappointed that this isn't anything to do with the PC platform, but hey signs were there. That page pic was a proven fake and original message did have a Portal theme about it. The term "gamers" isn't just us PC crowd, there's a whole other side of gaming and we're simply part of the whole scene. Valve so far have been one of the friendliest companies towards the PC community and their support has been top notch, especially in contrast to a lot of others out there. It was inevitable that they would start making their way into the riches of console markets and frankly they wouldn't be a good business if they weren't.

I find it quite surprising actually. :) Especially after Gabe Newell said:

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12568/Gabe-Newell-PlayStation-3-Is-a-Total-Disaster/

The fact that L4D1/2 didn't make it there sort of cemented that Valve were distancing themselves from the PS3, so it is a surprise to see Gabe up on stage with them.

Sure it's not the epic surprise that a lot of people were building it up to be, but what did you expect? :p

Oh, I didn't know about that. I just assumed that since Portal was on the PS3 it seemed logical that Portal 2 would be on the PS3 too. So the announcement seemed really pointless to me.

I expected something Half Life related. It really isn't much to ask to give us a brief update on the progress of Episode 3 or Half Life 3.

Good post. :)

I'd agree, but it's not really Valve's style.

I'd rather know a little about a game and have it blow my mind when it comes out, than be told everything about it and have it bigged up before hand only to be disapointed.

That said... some confirmation that Ep/HL 3 is actually coming out would be nice. :p

For anyone interested, the Portal 2 teaser is available for download on Steam now. :)
