Tried the Focus, imo, cheap nasty car - fast though
The Renaults just don't appeal to me for the same reasons as the Ford- felt cheap.
As for the Seat comment above it felt pretty good to me - they have recently updated the inside and I can tell you its the same stuff as in the Golf
Fair enough i have never sat in any of them but i know the people that own said cars realy rate them, especially for the drive-ability

Edit: I notice you are 23. I wonder if you will look back fondly at your decision to buy a brand new hatchback. It's not the stuff dreams are made of is it? It's hardly like speccing your first Porsche. Spending £20-30k on a hatchback is madness. If you like hot hatches, great. There are some crackers for much less.
you could get a focus RS in this budget.. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1720857.htm . And if you would open yourself to something other than a hatchback you could have an E46 M3 or something , Far quicker than anything you are thinking about.

Just because you can doesn't neccesarily mean you should. Buying a brand new Seat 'because its new and I'm in the position to do so' doesn't sound particularly clever to me.
I get new cars if you are in such a financial position that frankly the cost just isn't an issue but at 23 years old I very much doubt thats the case, I suspect you can 'afford' a brand new S3 in the same way that I can 'afford' an E92 M3 - by spending most of your monthly salary on the finance for it. Whilst this is a legitimate way to own a car and entirely your choice its also something you'd almost certainly regret when, after 2 years of ownership, you are driving around in a 2 year old Seat thats worth £10,000 less than what you paid for it.
Expensive cars are great but expensive normal cars are lame. Sure you dont know what to spend your money on - great! Spend it on a 2008 Cupra R and a load of holidays. Spend it on a 2008 Cupra R and an ISA so when you come to buy a new car you've got £10k more than you thought you had to spend on it, etc etc.

The other aspect with these cars is insurance and practicability - I do a lot of Mountain biking and need to get mine and a mates in the boot
You do realise that the minute the wheels role off the forecourt you have just ****ed away a substantial amount of money.
Think of it like a child getting the toy he really wants for christmas that he must have. Amazing fun and the best feeling in the world, then reality takes over, you get an interest in different things and it becomes just something very ordinary very quickly.
Don't be a fool, there are some cracking cars out there in the same price range, plus you could get a lot more for less. We might sound like a broken record, but the logic in undeniable!

With this type of use it's going to look and feel brand new until the first tiem you put the bikes in, then it'l be a scratched up messy mess.
It does indeed, so lets quickly get over that - it happens on forums all over the world, it happens in pub discussions, it happens when a bunch of mates are discussing cars at work, it always has happened and it always will happen, end of.
Lets not have a stupid arguement about whether people are entitled to an opinion or not - lets just talk about hot hatchbacks and the best way to buy one.
To be honest mdixson , what would you rather own? A very fast , almost supercar (E46 M3) or a generic hatchbatch?

I don't neccessarily think a 5-6 year old BMW is where he should be either. He wants a hot hatch - thats great, get a hot hatch. Suggesting a completely different type of car is the sort of thing that will inevitably attract the 'get offended on behalf of everyone else squad' to the thread.
If you're really into an exciting hot hatch, you won't get much better than the RS IMO.
If you want a decent, well built all rounder - get the Scirocco, but this is going to be as dull as the S3 with the exception perhaps of exterior styling, but then it isn't as good a car.
I personally wouldn't consider the Honda - when I tried one it felt tacky and far too overstated and busy inside.
Leon is meh, I'd be considering the ST way over this - I don't see how it offers anything in terms of build quality over the ST.

You are saving for a mortgage? Why would you save for a mortgage? Surely you mean you are saving for a house deposit? The mortgage is the thing you pay monthly.
Yea there is something special, but then reality hits and you realise buying a demonstrator or something 6 months old is the same.
