England fans need to make their voices heard IMO. Capello was supposed to bring about some sort of change to the squad in terms of selection, picking on form instead of status.

What we've seen so far is more of what previous managers have done. As I said before, he has ****ed his knickers at the thought of a media backlash should he try something different.

I only watch football every 4 years, no clue about anything really, but one thing I can't understand, why is the coach Italian? (I'm part Italian way back)

Common sense would tell me the Manchester United guy would be better?

Why do people confuse British and English. There is no British football team. Alex Ferguson by nature of the fact there's an English and Scottish one is a foreigner.

Why?

As bad as most people perceive the team to be I can't understand why any England supporter would want us to lose or have one of our players sent off.

Becuase we don't want to watch 90 minutes of long balls up to Heskey. We also don't want to watch Heskey have a couple golden chances and fluff them.

We don't want to watch Carragher get done for pace time and again, and see him giving away free kicks as he fouls everyone in his path.

We don't want to watch David James and his one-man circus-clown act.

Then look at the players we have on the bench. We have some real good prospects (Hart), we have a half-decent striker (Defoe), we have Joe Cole who has a good football brain and can create chances.

We left better players than Heskey back in England FFS.

What is it with people in this country and not being able to go with what a very experienced, top class manager believes it's right? He has won more than the lot of you put together, and yet you all still know better than him? Do you not realise how daft it comes across telling such a person he doesn't know what he's doing?

To be honest, I dont think Capello knows ANYTHING about the premier league, hes team selection and balance are mind boggling

Hes Sven Erikison MK3

Simply hasnt got a clue.

So , just trying to figure out the permutations tonight, if the worst really did happen and we lost to Algeria tonight, am I right in thinking that means that a draw against Slovenia would not be enough? We would have to beat Slovenia? That right?

Does anyone on this forum see anything in training? No? Didn't think so.

People seem to think the players he has to work with are better than they are. Apart from a select few, our squad is distinctly average compared to a lot of other countries.

He plays for Liverpool and Shami's a Manc :)

Some of the support from England supporters has been pretty shocking so far. I've never been overly fussed about International football but listening to some people on here has got me wanting us to win so much more just to shut them up.

You would have to beat Slovenia and rely on goal difference and hope that the US doesn't beat Algeria. Or indead Algeria beats the US come to think of it.

Excellent thanks, at least I have a good grasp of where we stand now.

EDIT : Also presumably we would have to hope that Algeria doesnt beat US too? So we would have to beat Slovenia and the other match be a draw?

I'm not confusing it, I'm Scottish and know exactly the difference. I keep a fleeting glance at football and see Man U and Chelsea seem to be the best English clubs, so why not use Ferguson? I think Chelsea is Russian?

You asked why the coach was Italian, by the only example you gave above, i.e. Ferguson it seemed you were comparing nationalities.
