Germany lost to a good Serbia team...

Serbia would give us a game.

Unfortunately Algeria turned up. Sometimes England have an attitude of "well we will just beat these"

That is hilarious if there's any truth in that. The fact that we didn't qualify Euro 08, been struggling in a group that was supposed to be E A S Y, live with the fact that we very well may not qualify for the next rounds, fans slamming them, commentators slamming them, etc etc. Yet these idiots still walk around with a falsely inflated sense of self due to the media crawling up their asses and the skew believe from the fans that we're somehow world class. We're world class in cheering ourselves on, not on the field.

I mean, any country that STILL goes on about a victory 44 years ago deserves pity.

Yep they definitely out passed us thats for sure but didnt quite have the end product...i mean imagine if we play like that against Slovenia??..we are going to get torn a new one quite simply put...Slovenia have the quality to put goals past us.

Lets just hope that come Wed we really pick up our game or else we are more or less out...especially moreso if we lose.

I think we made Algeria look better than they were. Our players looked clueless and had their heads down for the last 30 minutes.

We would have been better off with the under 21 side and Pearce shouting at them.

I wouldnt mind if we at least played well and it looked like we were making an effort but it was just a joke.

Rooney and Heskey partnership is the bigger joke. Rooney always gets frustrated and drops back to win the ball and then we are left with Heskey upfront to take our few chances. At least if we had Bent I might have thought we could have put one or two away.

Rooney needs to stay upfront. Just out of interest when was the last time Rooney scored for England? I know the mighty Heskey has scored about 3 for the season.

Have to agree with that. The majority of us were probably not even around 44 years ago. That World Cup glory belongs to the older generation. Frankly the England reputation has meant sod all since about 1996, the last time England really fielded a decent squad.

The country doesn't go on about winning 44 years ago , the media and advertising retards do though. Frankly its embarrassing at times and does nothing to help matters.

The fans are absolutely magnificent and I would say we are the best supported country home and away in the world bar none. They always turn out in massive numbers but in hope more than expectation these days. :(

Yeh, the whole 44years of hurt thing really gets tedious.

I enjoyed euro2008 because we weren't in it :) No hype, just watched it for the football, Russia, Spain and Holland brought it :)

In my short life the only time England have really played well was Euro96.. 14years ago!

England are like the Newcastle Utd of international teams lol, living in the past

(Im a newcastle fan so I can say it)

Joe Cole must have banged Capello's Mrs. He's the only one we have with that something different about him and yet isn't getting a sniff.

I totally agree. I've also thought Joe Cole was a superb player. Why Capello won't play him but always play the donkey heskey I don't know:confused:
IMO Capello is no better than any other managers we've had recently.

Heskey needs to be dropped ASAP. I said this ages ago and was just laughed at. It seems the only reason Heskey is even in the squad is because Rooney moaned that he only plays well with Heskey, well from what we've seen so far Heskey has been absolute dire in both games. Fair enough he made the pass to Gerrard for England's only goal so far, but apart from that he has been totally woeful. He constantly falls over for no apparent reason, I bet he spends more time on his ass than he does on his feet, he's shocking. Personally I would do something that Capello won't dare do for the next game. I would drop Gerrard, Heskey AND Rooney and play Defoe and Crouch up front, Lampard sat behind them in a CAM type position and a midfield of Cole and Lennon on the wings with Barry sat back a little, basically a diamond.

People might disagree with that, but what we have at the moment obviously isn't working and if things don't change then I don't see how England are going to progress in this World Cup.

what if we play a brazillian style 5-3-2 or 5-4-1?
James

johnson upson dawson terry cole

barry (DM)

gerrard lampard cole (all just free roaming attacking, the two coles on the left linkup workks well though as well i guess)

rooney

doubt the players could carry it out but we've got 2 Wing backs here who are better than our actual wingers in the final third of the pitch, perhaps a setup to allow them to fly forwards would work well for us.

and if rooney put in a dire first half performance then put on crouch, he has got a goal scoring record in the end and with that setup we'd probably get a lot of crosses and surely one might just accidently bobble of crouchs head.

Totally agree with you...our squad in Euro 96 was immense and same with the Italia 90...both immense squads that were desperately unlucky not to win those trophies imho.

I dont know but the media in this country doesnt make it easy either..all that pressure to do well then we flop...

And again like most in here...why hasnt J Cole played a single minute??...what the hell was the point in bringing him along if Capello wasnt going to play him...

I dont think anyone disagrees Heskey shouldnt even be in the squad not alone start. But out of him and Rooney, he has actually done better. At least he has actually got an assist. Rooney should be dropped to the bench so he can work on his tv ads and give Defoe a shot at it. Surely he cant do any worse :p

I think if we did drop Rooney that would be the kick up the backside that he needs to start playing like he can.

Either that or do like everyone is saying and go 4 5 1. At least Rooney will get a few shots in then. Rather than "i'm going to drop back and do everyones job but my own"

What I don't understand is why the media harp on about Heskry and Rooney being the only real striking partnership. Erm, Defoe and Crouch have played together upfront for two different clubs. If thats not a partnership worthy of trying I don't know what is.

In all fairness if the players picked stepped up to be counted and played to their ability then Joe Cole wouldn't be needed.

It was like the return of the prodigal son when Barry was was picked and lets face it he's average to say the least.

Playing Joe Cole won't paper over the huge cracks already showing.

Defoe did more yesterday than Rooney has done the previous 2 matches. He actually showed some determination and nearly got a goal out of it. What frustrated me about yesterday were the amount of long shots we played. They are not our strong point, get the ball into the box and shoot from close range.

Also, the lack of closing down players. The team just held off the Algerian players until the Algerians were near our area. We cannot attack if we do not press.

That's just the thing. I can 1000% accept the fact of us going out, IF, if if, we go out fighting like demons on a field of fire. If we go show the form and passion we did in '96, who can complain? Go out like scare mice, crying like school kids and we WILL ridicule these overpaid girls. Our rugby team took a hammering in '07 in the early stages, being murdered by South Africa. They took it on the chin from the fans, media and the players themselves. They knuckled down, clawed and fought their way to a final and was unlucky not to win. Nobody applauded them any louder than I did. It's not the winning thing. It's the pride thing.

I definitely agree that England need to stop living in the past. Draw the first game and all the media are like: "Ahh but we drew our first game in 1966 too, and we KNOW how that ended up"... it gets boring, it's the same with the English rugby side. We won the world cup 7 years ago, but we will still bring it up at every occasion possible. England need to live in the here and now, not 44 years ago in 1966.

Spot on...for me i didnt see anyone really on the pitch last night playing for pride...i mean come on...the english footballers are paid millions whereas the Algerians probably dont get half of what they earn when they play football for their respective club....but purely from a talent angle England should have trounced the Algerians all over the field but from what i saw and watched the Algerians play with much more pride.

well dont say that i didnt warn people that not trying out a plan B without rooney in the pre friendlies would be a mistake.

rooney has a lead touch atm and heskey is never going to score. trying to change the personel around them is not going to fix matters.. we just relied upon the punt and hunt for it.. algeria were sharper passing, faster players, quicker feet than us. they did make us look pretty awfully average.

The only good thing I'm taking from the past two matches is that the fans are seeming to behave like humans, leaving us only with the shame of the players.

I ve just watched the first 5 munites of the Holland vs Japan game and the way the Dutch control the ball and pass it around is a million times better than anything England did last night :(

When you think about it, even if we do get through the group stages as soon as we meet the Dutch,Germans, Argentinians e.t.c. we are going to get well and truly embarrassed.
