Mortal Online has been released?

Just had a read up on it! It just seems like a carbon copy of Darkfall

Doesn't mean it'll be bad, it's just at the moment it is really not worth any time investing in it as it's pretty much a bland game with no fluff or content to do anything with.

MO is differant to Darkfall, Darkfall has a more hardcore fast paces style of PvP where as MO seems more based on timing and taking your time.

only problem with Darkfall atm is they've just patched magic and now magic is completely useless rather than balancing it.

There's only so much freedom you can allow before it becomes a PK fest, I believe that this system gives a purpose to who you murder, a nice balance of risk vs reward. Stat gaining is so insanely fast anyway that you can cap a character in less than a week, it's more about tweaking your stats to tailor them around your needs rather than just gaining them.

Argh and this game was looking so promising.
It was actually making me think of UO - maybe this was the "uo2 bu another name" I was seeking.
No levels, riskVs Reward.

Then you have to go and spoil it by saying you can cap a characters skills in a week.
*Sigh*
It should take so much longer than that to gain the top level in a particular skill.

I'm not saying that we should neccessarily go back to UO - where 6 months to get a Grandmaster Smith or Tailor was no uncommon.
But a week?
This is why WOW sucks - because you can max a characters level in next to no time (well that isn't the only reason WOW sucks, but one of them).
Damn....so close to buying, now having second thoughts.

I dont think he means cap a single skill, but reach your overall level cap (equiv of hitting 750 in UO). I think max is 1000 across primary skills in MO, secondary skills don't count towards the cap.

I'm downloading the client now, anyone ingame fancy dropping there name so I can pester them with n00b questions :)

In the spirit of a fantasy game I went for "Bill" :p Names are unique as well, I was quite surprised to get it lol

Expect questions then 'Bill' :P

...I'm assuming there is some sort of /tell or /whisper system in the game ?

There is a total skill cap but to get 100 (for example) it could take a lot longer than spreading them out evenly. :)

Looks very interesting. I will wait for this to develop a little more before checking it out. Shows a lot of promise though.

http://mortal.thamal.de/SkillPlanner.php

Have a look at that link, it's a player created created skill planner for MO. During character creation, the ancestry and age of your character determine the maximum stats your character can gain so you might want to spend a while playing with the different ancestries. The skills which don't have a bar next to them are secondary skills, which don't affect the cap.

You really have to specialise with each alt, for example; if you wanted to be a master swordmaker, you'd have to master the metallurgy tree so that you're able to craft with the best metals, you'd also have to specialise in advanced blade making, leaving you with few skill points to use elsewhere. Even then, you'd only be able to craft from metal, any other materials and you'd have to learn the lore of them.

Hummm.
I've been waiting for an MMORPG for a while to interest me.
As a massive fan of UO (I know I've said it before, but playing in the beta of UO with 14.4k modems makes me a big fan) I think this icould be as close as it gets.

Any reason anyone can see to buy the boxed version?
I'd be downloading the client anyway (wouldn't want to have to wait).
Might as well save myself £16.

I went ahead and bought this yesterday. I must admit I was a bit worried about it. I wont lie I hated the game in beta due to all the bugs and what not. I'm glad I got this. I've been having loads of fun with it. I've only been hunting pigs, I've been griefed loads of times, I managed to ninja loot some player that got merked and managed to get some money from it. Had a few fights, PKed someone by mistake and generally having fun. Some times the graphics are pretty good. Other times it's like your playing a PS1 game maybe even a sega saturn lol.

But yea having a lot of fun at the moment just hunting pigs/harvesting. Loads of people. I must admit it kind of reminds me of that magic which is what got me in to MMOs like when I first played UO or Legend Of Mir. The view, head bob and everything is pretty good. They have a lot of work to do and it will only get better.

No reason at all to buy the boxed version at all really, may as well go for the digital download.

A few things I will say if you get this to avoid frustration...
If someone attacks you in town you need to type Guards this will alert the guards and they will kill the pker/attacker unless you hit first and call the guards on your self.
Griefing is allowed so when your killing mobs be careful someone doesn't stand in the way when you swing to flag you so they can PK you.
When grinding on mobs and they die and drop loot. Target the bag by pressing tab (when looking at it) and then press R to open the bag. If nothing comes up your client is corrupt and you will need a re install.

Was a few more but can't remember atm.

Any questions just ask.
