gerrard would play well behind say crouch+defoe or a Crouch+Rooney setup in the 4-3-1-2 formation. But i don't think he would play too good as a striker, more of an attacking midfielder :)

I didn't say he missed any?

He's been very poor positionally and then to come out and have a rant at the fans hardly the attitude of a model pro is it.

I don't think his positioning has been bad. The standard of crossing has been....absent. The only person that's come close to finding him is Lampard when Rooney did a 1-2 with him against Algeria but the return was overhit.

If he comes deep to get the ball people scream that he should stay up front, if he stays up front and never gets any service then people scream that he should be doing better. He just can't win with England fans.

Find me a chance he's missed. Unlike Heskey, Lampard, Gerrard I think you'll find he hasn't been given any.

He hasn't missed a chance because he's mis-controlled every ball he's had to him near the box.

He is obviously is our best striker, but your blind defence of him is ridiculous. He's played VERY poorly.

So basically it's everybody elses fault apart from Rooney's?

Didn't you know? I personally blame the referees.

Oh no the precious Wayne Rooney has been questioned by DM. :o

Cue a long line of Man Utd supporters to tell him that stats don't mean anything.

Dont worry by the same methodology Bent is better than Van Persie as well!!!

Gerrard has been knocking them in ok as a 2nd striker to torres majority of the season so I dont see why not

Rooney has been "nearly" set up twice in both games - once the Lampard pass which was overhit, and the other was AC overllaping SWP on the left coming right down the byline and into the penalty area and messed up the 10m pass by guiding it straight to the defender instead of Rooney a few mtres away, otherwise Rooney has HAD to hunt for the ball to get any action at all the service has been so atrocious

Where did I say that? He hasn't played well, but by the same degree he hasn't been the worst player at a world cup ever like some people posting on here would have you believe. He's not been the best player in the England squad but by the same degree he has not been the worst.

Blame the fans while you're at it. I'm sure it's their fault before it is England's Rooney's as well. :p

Oh look an Arsenal fan being a muppet

Pretty much as there are 9 other outfield players. The game is being lost in midfield where the team is unable to string together any possession applying pressure. Heskey was running all over the place, and unless we wanted an empty box, this meant Rooney was upfront with 2 centre-backs dealing with him.

Rooney is a striker, and you can't expect him to go on a solo goal scoring spree for England to lift the WC.

Oh look a Man Utd fan defending Rooney despite poor performances in qualifying and the finals. It's okay for Arsenal players to be picked apart but as soon as someone suggests a Barca or Utd player are not as good as they are made out to be all hell breaks loose.

Maybe you should get a grip and see that the sun doesn't shine out of Wayne Rooney's ass.

We lack that special someone, someone like a Messi/Ronaldo/Torres that gets on the ball and has you sat on the edge of ya seat knowing they can do something magical nearly everytime they touch it.

TBF its not just us obviously that misses such players, most of the world do.

There is something wrong though with our academys when you see a league that is so "dominant" and we cant get together a decent enough WC squad.

We cant purely blame it on the pressure of being at such an event, look at the likes of Argentina/Brazil far greater expectations, they are expected to win it everytime. We would merely like to get to a decent stage 99% of the time!

So there's going to be a meeting between Capello and the team later to "clear the air" apparently. Terry has also said that Joe Cole could make a great difference.

Sounds like we aren't the only ones unhappy with Capello's decisions

Indeed, the players need to stand up for themselves a bit more.

Can't agree with this at all. A one to one with the team captain is all thats needed. Terry isn't the manager or even the captain and needs to shut the hell up.

We are on really thin ice if we are now resorting to player power and undermining the manager, not that we weren't already of course. ;)

It will all end in tears and embarrassment
