*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Going by the 3G launch, it's unlikely to be like that.

You qued for ages, then got to an area where it was a seated que. You then waited until one of the advisers was free who then took you to their Mac where they then went through everything with you, but also tried to sell you extras also.

I doubt they would change very much from that process, as the Apple Store is all about selling 'help and knowledge and expertise' rather than just being about selling goods. So while not everyone will be there renewing a contract or taking a new one out, they will still want to help people switch over to the new phone and most importantly not want to miss out on the opportunity to sell them Mobile Me and iPhone accessories.

I'd also say the que for pre-orders and non-preorders is a bit of a non-starter, because most people going will have pre-ordered in this case.

But this is the first time they have sold unlocked phones, also I rememeber the last time and I was getting contract and bro was getting pay & go, he was done in 5 mins, i spent 30 mins messing about.
That all being said, I do believe it will be a bid mad, I'm going to drift along about 10-11am after school run and a cup of coffee!

people who have ordered with Quidco cashback - they have changed their terms to specifically not include the iPhone 4.

so to people who have ordered before this (like me) are they likely to pay you cashback or not?

You must be mistaken, because there were no Pay-As-You-Go phones at the launch of the iPhone or iPhone 3G.

All I'm trying to say though is that people are fooling themselves if they hope they can pick one up quickly, expect to be there at least a couple of hours.

What is the most cost effective way to get the iPhone 4? Are there more advantages in buying straight from Apple, maybe due to the length of a contract working out to be more expensive?

I’m currently with t-mobile on a sim-only 30day rolling contract for £20 (600 minutes and unlimited texts). Ideally I’d like to keep the same amount of minutes and same monthly charge however I would be willing to pay more per month if it works out cheaper in the long run. Can anyone recommend a suitable contract as there seems to be so many to choose from!

Thanks

Can't wait to see some examples of the videos and pictures, that will be my main selling point. I highly doubt the ones we've seen so far are typical end results. I want to see real examples :D

My iphone took about 5mins to buy as the registering the contract was done via web/itunes or something at home. Which I never did and had an unlocked phone :)

With the buying out of your contract. Do I phone up O2 now and do it then go in on Thursday or do they do that all on Thursday in store anyone know?
Thanks (O2 btw)

Thought i'd post this again as last time it seemed to get lost amongst a load of posts about ios4.

I've currently got an iphone 3G on a 30 day O2 simplicity contract and have an iphone 4 reserved at my local apple store for Thursday. I want to buy the phone on contract as I can't afford £500 up front for it. Will they be able to upgrade my current simplicity contract to an 18 month one on Thursday? Or do I have to cancel the simplicity one, take out a new contract and then get my number transferred over to the new one?

Thanks

I think they were for the 3GS? correct me if im wrong

They might have done, but the 3GS launch was nothing like the launch of the 3G.

If you bare in mind that most people who bought a 3G at launch were on an 18 month contract, it was only going to be the most diehard of people who had to have a 3GS, when like myself and many others realized it didn't offer that much new over the 3G when something else clearly of a much bigger improvement would come along. It certainly wasn't worth buying out your contract and paying the extra for.

You've now got a lot of people who bought a 3G two years ago on expired contracts who want something new, and many who picked up an iPhone sometime after. The demand for the iPhone 4 is clearly already huge, so it will be very busy.

It shocks me how such numptys work in call centres... Just called Vodafone to ask for a micro sim to be ordered and was told to call back next week and they might be able to help!!

Looks like I will just trim my current sim card to the right size!!

I don't think its because the person you spoke to is a numpty, they just don't have MicroSims yet to send to people. Only seems to be o2 that are sending them out at the moment.

Aren't their stores giving them out yet? Just went to o2 yesterday to get my micro sim. Had my details swapped over in 5 minutes as well. Was very easy.
