*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Dropped by my local o2 at lunch time. Got told the following:

1. I am on pay as you go with the £10/pm iphone data bolt on, when I get the new phone on thursday this will not change unless I request it to be changed. The act of going to a new sim on the iphone4 shouldn't affect anything. (I was wondering if they would automatically xfer you to one of the iphone4 tariffs).

2. The guy in the store had looked up the details on trimming normal sized sims previously and found that whilst it fits, the voltages are different and warned against doing it as either the phone or the sim might get damaged.

3. Whilst the apple store will supply me with a new sim they would not give me one early.

Well when I went into the Three store he didn't believe me the iphone took micro sim. !!

Also said micro sim is data only.

The ipad micro sim is data only and won't work with the iPhone 4. The new iPhone micro sim has data and mobile, that'll be the one you're after.

This sounds like a load of rubbish to be honest, I can't find anything to back it up and if the voltages were different then there wouldn't be adapters supplied for old handsets.

You can forward it to me :D

Not entered any competitions? They usually come un-announced.

As for iPhone 4 I'm looking to get a sim-free one from carphone warehouse but I'm not sure how likely that is.

Going to the 02 shop thurs morning to go upgrade from 3gs. I think ima go with the 32gb model this time rather than the 16gb tbh.

I'm really excited for some reason :)

Was going to agree with you anyway, but having seen this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroSIM

The micro-SIM was created with backwards compatibility in mind. The major issue with backwards compatibility was the contact area of the chip. Retaining the same contact area allows the micro-SIM to be compatible with the previous, larger SIM readers through the use of plastic cutout surrounds. The SIM was also designed to run at the same speed (5 MHz) as the previous version. The same size and positions of pins resulted in numerous "How-to" tutorials and YouTube video with destailed instructions how to cut usual SIM card to micro-SIM size with sharp knife or scissors. These tutorials became very popular among first owners of iPAD 3G after its release in May 2010

So yeah, absolute rubbish. Don't think there's going to be a problem other than someone too heavy handed with a pair of scissors!

Going by the 3G launch, it's unlikely to be like that.

You qued for ages, then got to an area where it was a seated que. You then waited until one of the advisers was free who then took you to their Mac where they then went through everything with you, but also tried to sell you extras also.

Thats generally where you reach over, crack him right on the jaw, and run out of the store with the phone screaming for no apparent reason.

When you pay off your existing contract and take out a new one at the Apple or o2 store, do you need to take proof of ID, address, etc?

Or do you not need to as you provided it for the existing contract?

Just got a call from o2 saying I had been pre selected for an iphone for delivery Thursday, managed to talk him into giving me the 32gb for free, well I had to take a 24 month contract but I have been with them for 9 years so can’t see me changing anytime soon. Only thing is I already ordered one on the apple website due for delivery Thursday as well, do you think I would get a good price for it on ebay? or the very least my money back?

GAH

Rung home, nope nothing from O2 in the post for me today.

Off I go to O2 at lunch then for a MicroSIM..... "All gone. We'll be getting some more in on Thursday".

****.

<Points at iPad with O2 PAYG SIM that has been cut down to fit>

Absolute rubbish!
