Westyfield2 - ESPN is great for watching live WC games in very good quality. Let me know if you can access it, no signing up or registrations or anything required... it just works.

(when a game is being played the watchLIVE link appears below it)

It's also good for watching highlights too:
I have to take my hat off to ESPN, their coverage is utterly fantastic with British commnetary and near HD streaming for completely free.

Not only that but the after-game interface "GameCast" is truly amazing. I've never seen options like this before provided for free. You can watch the entire match again or if you look at below the video there is a time line with icons representing goals, subs and all cards within that game. Clicking on the play button above the icon gives you a short clip of the event with close up replays in excellent quality.

Going on the last two games I'm not sure you can say Rooney is one of our best players. Saying that he is off the boil is a bit of an understatement, he's more on the cold side or warm than off the boil.

Out of interest, how many goals has Rooney scored in the last few months for both club and country?

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he should be dropped I'm just saying that just because he has 'Rooney' on his back doesn't mean he should automatically play. Whether he plays or not should be based on his performances.

You're really asking me how many goals Rooney scored last year/ last few months for his club as an example of why he should be dropped? He was injured for the final 3/4 weeks of the season and was pretty much on fire all year in which he scored 34 goals.

Why not?

If a player is doing badly and actually hindering the team, you don't keep him on in the hope he suddenly starts playing well.

So what would you do? Bring on Defoe? What if he doesn't perform? Bring Heskey on?

Two mediocre performances from an unbelievable season and you're already calling for his head.

If there's any position that relies on your team mates its striker. What has Rooney been given to work with? The midfield play has been atrocious. (mainly because Gerrard is being played out of position)

And what about Uruguay, Croatia, Egypt, Mexico? They're of a similar, or in the case of Croatia and Mexico, much superior ability than Slovenia

I'm not saying we shouldn't have beat Algeria and Slovenia tomorrow, the performances so far have been absolute tripe.

But to ask for Rooney to be dropped is just brash imo. If you replace him with Defoe and he fails to perform would you look to be replacing him as well?

Fact of the matter is this:

He's been absolutely cack in the first two group games.

England now have ONE game left in which to by some stroke of luck, progress.

Do you stick with the striker who not only did nothing in the first game, but managed to miscontrol every pass and lose possession constantly in the second game?

This isn't about hoping your media built 'star player' suddenly hits form. This is about doing all you can to make sure you don't make the same mistakes again. Rooney can come on as a sub. Dropping him doesn't mean disregarding him entirely.

I wasn't asking anything in particular to prove a point as tbh I couldn't remember how the season ended for Rooney, I knew there was an injury at some point but couldn't say for definite exactly when it was. I was just wanting someone to give a quick run-down on the last few weeks of the season and whether Rooney was starting to find his form.

His performances over the last two games have been pretty bad, maybe this next game is a bit too important to be relying so heavily on a player who is coming back from injury and not quite got their eye in yet.

Not calling for his head exactly, we're not saying he's a bad player, as we're all aware he isn't by any means. For the sake of the team and having one game left to crack the final 16 I say mix things up a little, show these 'star' players that they are not guarenteed a place in the starting line up just because of their name and reputation. Spark some fear into them and get them fired up.
Play Defoe and Crouch together, dump Lampard because he's been awful and the team doesn't need him AND Gerrard, and get J.Cole on that left flank, someone with a bit of creativity atleast.

Bingo.

Thats OK, Rooney hasnt played as a lone striker in the WC so far, so everything you have said in this post can be discounted.
He also hasnt been booked to my knowledge or been close to being booked, so again, we can just overlook everything you post about this matter from here on in.
;)

OK, so what exactly were we doing then? Heskey is just up there to give the ball to Rooney, nothing more. I know Rooney ends up running all over the pitch when he hasn't got the ball, but wasn't it Capello's intention for him to be our main striker?

I would rather have a 90% Rooney over Crouch and Defoe.

You're bordering on trolling now with the amount of posts you have in this thread and the rubbish you talk.
