*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

ok, ive just flashed my orange one with a stock rom, its working fine wifi and all :) question is it came up straight away with a OTA update 1.15.405.4 should i accept it or is that likely to brick my phone?

Would I be right in thinking to get those nice icons on your top bar you need to be rooted?

Rooted my Orange Desire last night (22nd) with a stock(ish) ROM and this afternoon an update (1.21.405.2) appeared for me - however when the phone attempts to install it the update fails and the phone reboots - I'd guess you'd have the same problem. I'm probably just going to wait another couple of weeks and get a stock 2.2 ROM instead of fussing with it :)

The 1.21.405 update .... it was reported (earlier in this thread even) that flashing this on a previous Orange branded phone (i.e. your situation) causes loss of Wifi, as in it won't turn on .... I had this issue with mine in the same situation as you. Supposedly if you have a gold card in the phone then it will flash without the wifi issue but may well lock the phone requiring the purchase of an unlock code to even use your Orange SIM. I have not tried again (after reverting back to the previous release) and am awaiting 2.2 before I do any further fiddling.

The rooting and the "ish" are more likely to have caused that failure.

to root the phone - Orange do seem to be a bit arsey about folks rooting their phones so like I said, probably going to wait for 2.2 now rather than bother with incremental updates :)

My dad's Desire on Orange could not be rooted. I get the same error on btoh Win7 x86 and x64:

rebooting into bootloader... OKAY

Step 1 complete - now use the bootloader menu to enter recovery mode.

To do this, press the power button, wait a few seconds, then use the volume keys
and power button to select the RECOVERY option.
