Virgin Media - 50mb

Are you on VM already? If so just go for it. Installation fee aside (it's only a one-off after all) the 50 meg package itself is only a couple of quid dearer than 20 meg. Well worth it just to avoid the STM/throttling on lower packages, even if you're only a "casual" user. At least that way you can watch iPlayer and download games without having to plan around several hours of congestion and throttling. Have a think; but you know you want to. :D

Yep, on 20Mb at the moment. It's £55 up front and an extra £8 per month, which is £151 if written off over the year so not insignificant for someone that, if I'm being honest, only wants it to torrent faster.

@RobbieG - Still no capping and has been no word since launch about when they will introduce it. They wont do self install as the engineer is SUPPOSED to ensure the power levels are correct. The only way to correctly adjust this is by moving you up or down the panel in the cab which means no self install. You can use attenuators your end but trying to get people to do that self install is a bit of a headache and not a plug and play job.

Ok, thanks for that info. I suppose if they did start capping it I could just downgrade again. *Thinks about it*

I'm still having problems with this connection. Speed is still slow, some web pages don't load, images on such sites as Facebook take forever, sometimes web pages load with missing images etc. No idea what to do next ....

That's facebooks fault, terrible site

Am still on the original Netgear router they gave me last July apart from some teething problems to start with(i was first in are area to get 50mb) i get 50mb speeds 24/7 and to round it up seems the offer they are giving me on 50mb @20m prices won't run out until i cancel/upgrade service bonus.

Chaos is correct, all four Downstream channels should be active.

No he's not, it depends whether he's connected back to Cisco or Motrola equipment, I believe its the newer Cisco equipment that only needs 3.

I think the obvious thing to try here is connecting a PC up to the modem (not router) and attempt another speedtest. Depending where you are, the Sittingbourne Speedtest location should be pretty good if you are in the South, I know the guy who runs that speedtest location and its not saturated (I get 50Mbit every time from it).
