*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

That's utterly ridiculous.

The arrogance from Jobs is amazing in that statement. I can almost imagine them bringing out a left handed version with the antenna setup reversed so lefties don't get signal problems.

Its quite clear that apple should have put a recess on the edge so the antennas would be inset into a little channel minimising or eliminating contact from peoples hands.

Some of the replies in the Macrumors thread about it are pure comedy gold.

I'm guessing some company will come out with a little strip of clear plastic that you can tape over that area and solve the problem, or you could even do it yourself with a short trip to the craft store.

:D

Seriously though? What the hell are Apple thinking, people (even most die hard Apple fans) aren't going to let this slide.

Its simply not good enough.

Sad thing is though Jobs is arrogant enough to believe that people should adapt to the phone and not vice versa.

Wouldn't be suprised to see him issue a statement telling everyone that we've been holding phones the wrong way for years, and for only £9.99 we can get the official Apple guide on how to hold a phone that so much better and more beautiful and thinner than we've ever held a phone before.

Steve Jobs is many things but I doubt he is that stupid.

It would appear Apple have clearly under-estimated the public and they are not going to get away with this without incurring major losses to the iPhone market.

Google must be cracking open the champagne! :p

No iPhone 4 for me then it seems.

Also, people seem to be getting confused about the antennas. The black sections are the breaks in the stainless steel banding. It's the banding that picks up the signals, the black is merely a separator designed to stop the 3 antenna connecting / shorting.

Hence, when you bridge the gap with your hand (see: charged) you are completing the circuit and causing the signal to drop exponentially.

tl;dr - the problem isn't covering the black strip.. it's the connecting of the 2 sections of the band.

Who bets in a few months apple geniuses will hand out replacements free under signal problems quietly.

This is jobs covering apples perpetual arse.

Was shocked to hear this.

The real test will come, who will crack first, users who accept it or jobs.

My money: users .

Jobs isn't that stupid (or at least the people around him). I suspect they will introduce 3 tiny clear plastic stickers to solve the problem.

Or perhaps everyone should hold the phone the Jobs way

If it is that bad then apple should include the bumpers free at least.
Charging 500 for a phone that wont work unless a 1 p piece of sellotape is placed over it is utter garbage

Myself and a friend both bought a 16GB yesterday, and we have both been trying to replicate the antenna thing with no luck. I guess either we're lucky or just live somewhere with a really good signal?!

This phone is awesome!

Now i just need to decide whether to try and shove my 3G into the tiny O2 envelope and get £203 or the larger Envirofone envelope (who i have used before with no problems) for £190...

I don't see what the big panic is, everyone that has bought the iPhone 4 has atleast a 1-year warranty so if you do have the antenna problem then just wait it out a few weeks and get a replacement.

Despite what some of the clear Apple haters say in this thread it's still the best phone ever released.

Anyone else stuck listening to Vivaldi on a Tesco mobile's loop?

Called at 7:55, not open, 7:56, not open, 7:57 entering a queue. Been in it ever since.

Just tried to call from my mobile whilst land line is in the queue and it's engaged! Must be overwhelmed.
