*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

But he is right:confused:

No he isn't?

Swapping the phone wont fix the issue, the vast majority of handsets have this problem and it could well be all of them depending on various factors.

Anyone who 'accepts' this, is just plain stupid.

Apple have already said they dont see a problem and you are holding it wrong.

What a joke :)

In total agreement, Apple's comment on the matter(s) is just laughable. Given the price premium on their products you would expect them to "just work" (sic) and then some. Hastily rushed together crap, should have just held out a bit long to work all the kinks out before releasing it en masse.

Indeed, surely they wont be able to maintain their current stance.

Hell, even the vast majority of people on Apple websites are disgusted by it, and that is saying something :)

Iphone 4 Headline Features:

FACETIME - aka - Video calling.
I have had numerous phones that have has this feature. My old M5000 (available Q3 2005) was the first I had used...

Two Cameras - Again, old tech.. No innovation here. All the features, including switching between the cameras for Video calling were available on the M5000 (Q3 2005)

RETINA DISPLAY - aka - High resolution screen.
Apple boasts 326 PPI for the screen. The Toshiba Portege G900 back in 2007 had a 313 PPI screen. Apple does hold the torch in this area amongst current phones, so this might actually be the only decent bit of "newish" tech in the device.

MULTITASKING - aka Multitasking.
Well, again... How Apple can get away with calling this a new feature suprises me. Windows Mobile and I think even palm os were doing this back in 2006. I can even find reference to windows mobile 2003 having some multitasking support.

HD VIDEO EDITING AND RECORDING - aka - 720p Video camera and editing app.
The Samsung i8910 has has 720p support since Feb 09 I dont think you needed to purchase any other apps for it either.. Infact, industry is talking about 1080p mobile displays as the future. The Zii trinity had FULL HD support in December 2009!

5 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA - aka - really old camera tech
Well, the Samsung G800 was billed as being the first 5 Megapixel mobile camera, and it had a Xenon flash! This was way back in 2007.

So, these are the features that they lead with for the Iphone4.. Only 1 of which is actually anything like "industry leading"

Now, onto a few other things...

Flash support... Any kind of flash support at all?? Nooooppe.. Browsing the net without flash is like driving a car without a windscreen. Sure, it can drive as fast as any other similar car, but its far from practical. Windows Mobile/Blackberry/Symbian/Android have all had some flash support since mid 2009. With the way the web is so reliant on flash, its absense in just nuts. With most mobile OS now implementing flash 10.1 support, Apple need to sort this out.

HSDPA - Finally Apple get on the bandwagon after it had been left rotting in the breakers yard.(All UK mobile providers dropping unlimited internet packages) I had an SPV m3100 that had HSDPA support back in 2006. Then it was a revelation, now its the basic level expected of any smartphone. Its taken far too long to get support for this feature. Although this is typical west coast mentality, and shortsightedness about rest of world expectations.

Aerial Issues - Jeeze, did apple do any testing on this new Aerial feature? They must have had some idea this was going to cause a problem... I fail to believe that no one spotted this problem before the phone was shipped out. Which means Apple were aware of the fault, but chose to ignore it. Then the response when it was raised was basically a nicely worded "you are holding the phone wrong". Microsoft should learn a thing or two from Apple when it comes to explaining away faults.

What phone do you have Malt Vinegar?

As for the phone, I'm happy with it - Yes I do have the signal issue but I don't hold the phone in that way, plus I will be using a case so I'll comment on the use of that later.

Was there any point to your post Malt? Personally don't think there was...anyhow.

Is this the Iphone4 thread, which says "keep all Iphone4 stuff in here"

Yes, there is plenty of point to it. Its raising a number of what I believe are important questions about the marketing and features of the device.

I currently have a Toshiba TG01 Running Windows Mobile 6.5

I have to agree - being told to "Hold it differently" is almost an insult (giggidy - lol :p)

Really expected to hear something a little more positive from Jobs :(

I guess I'm just plain stupid then. Does it really make a difference if you hold your phone differently, when there's all the other benefits? And if you really have to hold the phone that way buy a bumper. Then you get to enjoy the best phone ever made to date.

Computers have had CPUs for a long time it doesn't make it old tech. I'm pretty sure the two cameras in your old M5000 didn't come close to the iPhone camera.

Quite an informative post actually, for people considering buying one.

I personally see a point to it.

It's made me 100% (not that I wasn't before) sure that I'd never buy the iPhone 4 from Apple. I wouldn't dismiss everything from their mp3 player range though.

The very least I expect Apple to do is to offer a bumper for free to all iPhone 4 owners...

That is, of course, if wearing the bumper means the reception bug goes bye bye.

Has anyone thought this might be a big conspiracy :p :D

It sounds like it's affecting the majority. That doesn't mean that you can't swap it out from one in the next batch when the problem has been corrected though.

I think the best solution is the keep the phone, use it in the bumper if the problem affects you then just to a swap out in an Apple store when the problem is fixed.

What, so Apple can boast how the iPhone 4 managed to force a few million left handed people to use their right hand instead?

Let me rephrase that..

What, so Apple can boast how the iPhone 4 managed to force a few million fashion victims to use their right hand instead?

Because, lets face it - you are now victim of the iPhone fashion? No? Apple might as well have said, YOU'LL ALL WANT TO CUT OFF YOUR LEFT HAND TO USE THIS!
