*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Anyone having any random restarting problems, just started happening in the last week or so? My phone seems to keep rebooting itself for no real reason. It's causes range from surfing the web to writing a text to simply moving to a different home screen.

Updated to 1.21.405.2 yesterday and then done a full hard reset and its still doing it.

Bought it new unlocked and unbranded from a jersey based website, not rooted or modded in any way.

When you search for a contact in exchange it finds them and you put a tick next to their name and click "Add". It then puts their name in the TO: box of the email. It adds them to your phone book too which I don't want. It doesnt simply auto search for an exchange contact in the GAL

This is just an update to my above post in this thread from back in April when I tried out a Desire. I tried a workmates Nexus One on v2.2 and tried to demonstrate the above. To my surprise it just worked fine! I then looked into the change log for v2.2 and they have added proper GAL support to Android now! That was the main thing that made me take back the Android as it was useless for work. Tempted to get another now when v2.2 comes to the Desire. Any idea when this will happen?

Auto-discovery: you just need to know your user-name and password to easily set up and sync an Exchange account (available for Exchange 2007 and higher).

Global Address Lists look-up is now available in the Email application, enabling users to auto-complete recipient names from the directory.

EDIT: OMG he has just showed me the full flash support in 2.2!! BBC news flash clip of the football and it works fine! None of the crap flash lite from last time. My view of Android has been changed significantly and I'm tempted to cancel the iPhone 4 order...

June 11th? How did he get access to the 2.2 source code prior the the other day?

I edited my post :p the 2.2 is comming soon, and apparently they will have working camcorder too :) still no 720p till we get a new radio obviously.

Im going to wait till both these guys and Paul have released there compile and then make my mind up

Well SenseUI scrolling the homescreens there is visible jumpiness more often than none, in LP/ADW there is no jumping or slight stuttering at all, it is seamlessly smooth.

It's been a few weeks since I ran stock, but I don't recall any jerkiness at all. I was quite happy with how smooth it all was! Perhaps changing back will highlight it more? I find the 2.2 based ROMs I am using now slower in some respects than standard, but this I put down to them being a ported effort so not as quick as can be for the Desire. Quite liking DeFrost 1.4 (FRF83) at the moment, most things working fine. Just the 720p now...

Is there anyway I can get text message notifications, kinda how the iPhone has where the screen lights up when the message is received?

I find it a bit irritating that it doesn't already, unless I'm missing a setting somewhere!

I should, hopefully, be getting a Desire delivered tomorrow and was wondering if there are any must have apps. I would search the thread, but it's now at 90 pages and I'm feeling slightly lazy.

Thanks.

Is this the same as LDAP?

LDAP is a huge protocol for a directory system.

Global Address Lookup is where the company address book is basically an extension of your own. In android 2.1 (might be a sense thing, cant remember) you can search the company directory but Totality was saying that when you selected someone in it, it would copy the info of the person into your phone as a contact for future use.

In 2.2 it doesn't copy them into your phone but you can still mail / call them, is pretty much the quick version.

I updated the OTA (1.21) and then rooted which brought me back to 1.15 then ROMmed to 1.21 and it's all good but my phone is vanilla.

Either use Handcent as suggested. Or if you would rarther use the default msg APP then use SMS Popup

Its the Orange thing im not sure about.
Theres reports about that the '1.21.405.2' update can break WiFi on Orange phones that havea been debranded :(.

Finally got round to rooting - love it :D

Oh I wouldn't bother OTA updating an Orange handset. Just root > flash then be happy :)
I dont want to root it.
Just want it to function how it should with OTA.
Ive done one OTA before and it hasnt caused problem...but this one does specifically mention there being a problem. :(
