It may have been discussed, but didn't we have a similar thing when the 3G launched? I seem to remember an OS update to change how the reception was reported as it kept fluctuating constantly. Similar (but exacerbated by the silly antennae) issue perhaps?

To be fair i did have the 3G iphone but returned it within a week as i wasnt happy with it ie the tariff was stupidly expensive....so i cant comment on the reception issues but i know my brother has the 3GS on O2 and even in London he has issues getting reception at the best of time.

To be honest that's probably just O2. I'm told their London coverage is awful due to saturation.

There's nothing wrong with that, but you aren't spouting total nonsense which is a bonus (unlike select few other people on here) :)

As I've said, there is obviously a problem here, people saying what Apple have said is fine (or to that effect) need a kick up the backside :p

Even die hard Apple fans are upset about it, people trying to defend them are in a whole new league of their own.

Personally I see what James was saying.

Yes, it's a problem. Yes it's annoying (For those who have it, personally I've never been able to do it no matter how hard I try). And yes, Apple should pull their finger out and fix it.

But what's the alternative, going back to an inferior phone?*

(*Subjective, obviously people have different opinions on this. In my opinion iPhone 4 has the best hardware, software, and overall user experience of any phone out there.)

I am happy to be labelled fanboy, but thats because I am a fan of excellent design.

As a engineer I know the compromises that come with designing something usuable always come with corner cases. As noted here some of that trade off is designing towards specifications that don't reflect actual usuage. Look ma no hands! Antenna design is a black art.

As far as I can tell, through my own testing, in marginal reception areas, you can interfere completely with the 3G signal by purposefully trying to interfere with the antenna. Through the power of the internet a workaround for this has been discovered.

It's a 'perceived problem' in that it's only a problem if you want it to be. Given the high profile launch, and the hoped for schadenfreude of seeing the big Apple fall, this has become a feeding frenzy. As I say, this pleases me!

Why? If the issue is worthy of greater consideration than I have given it - there will be a fix because of your clamour. The iPhone will only improve.

So..erm... thanks!

Have to restore the phone so that i can get the data on.
Someone on the apple forums said that i do indeed need to take that backup from my ipod when promped, then do a full sync.

But now its downloading ios4 again lol.

There are a number of posts in this thread from people that actually own an iphone 4 ( me included ) that are having no reception issues. But it seems every one of these posts gets ignored and people that don't own one are jumping on the bandwagon slating them.
 
Why do these things always boil down to the classic "fanboy" arguments, get a grip people!

Some people like Apple products, some people don't - get over it!

I'm not a great fan of Macs, and don't really see the point of an iPad, but after having an iPhone 2G for the past 2 and a bit years and having played with many an Android, BlackBerry and WiMo, nothing comes close to the full experience I have with the iPhone.

I believe it to be the best mobile comms device ever made, apart from this issue with signal. If I find that it affects me negatively too much over the next few weeks then I will return it and (reluctantly) go back to my 2G.

Lets all stop arguing yeah?

Stores used up their allocation yesterday, according to the phone salesman I spoke to. Of the stores that actually have phone outlets, each one had <20 units available.

Waiting to hear whether my order has gone through. Getting Tesco Value service.

Why would you do that? If the truth has such an adverse effect on you I'd suggest visiting a psychiatrist - you probably need some help... :rolleyes:
