*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Sorry, I meant "updated mine to the OTA update".

I too cannot use the OTA update once I flashed it (I don;t think root has anything to do with it).

Ah cool... I am downloading a 1.21 update now which will let me update as, when I re-rooted, it put it back to 1.15 :o

I am hoping the Froyo OTA wont be a PITA the same as the HTC one but I fear it will be :/

Oh I wouldn't bother OTA updating an Orange handset. Just root > flash then be happy :)

Im thinking about rooting mine but really don't want to lose wifi or be locked out of my phone.

Is it just flashing the rom on an unrooted phone that causes the borked wifi and/or locked phone or is it rooting as well?

What borks your wifi on orange is either flashing to a generic ROM and installing the OTA that updates the radio OR applying a ROM which already contains the update to the radio.

So the best thing to do is either root your phone and load a ROM that doesn't contain the update or flash the generic ROM and don't accept any OTA. Once froyo is out you can just install that.

Reading other forums it looks like the worst that can happen is that i will have to buy a sim unlock code. Might be quite nice to have the phone unlocked anyway i guess :p

I don't have a clue which Rom to install though :(

not a dig at you Khann but in the real world does it actually make any difference so to speak?

Are we not just going down the 3d mark 20XX for mobile phones now?

Well no. I just want to see if this kernel improves 3D performance over stock and non custom kernel and the easiest way is to see other people's results.

I am interested since seeing the Droid x thread fwiw.

I'm interested in getting my first Android phone in August when I am eligible for an upgrade with Three. It seems the Samsung Galaxy S is well recommended? But what does all this talk of 'root' mean? and are there loads of good free apps or do you have to pay for them? Can Android be jailbroken per se?

Ah so it's not much different at all in that area ta.

chaparral Raging Thunder is 21MB so there's a start!

Got my Desire coming on Monday. A big step up from my trusty 4 year old Motorola E770v!

Best deal I could find was Orange Panther 400 mins/unlimited text and data over 24 months @ £30, with redemption and cashback via Quidco meaning it'll equate to £18 per month.

Also, I just ordered a Case-mate "barely there" cover which should help protect against droppages. Frankly, I think there's a real danger of looking a **** when digging out a pouch or one of those leather affairs. Horses for courses I guess.

;)
