*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

dont blame you , the phone is way ahead of the desire , imho build quality alone the press was always going to jump on ANYTHING with the phone , all modren phones drop signal strength when you hold them , but when the desire was launched no one gave it a second look in the press , even though it was THE best phone out a few months , well 3 days ago ;)

I wouldn't be so fast to slate the Desire, while it isn't perfect its easily on par with the iPhone depending on what you want from a phone. It may have issues, but none that are considered crippling like many are considering the iPhone 4 problem to be.

They are different phones for different people, good at quite different things. Both great products :)

Didn't the desire have a pink tinted screen for some when it first came out?

I dont know how thats less crippling than an issue that (for me) I have to actually be attempting to do it to replicate.

Yeh but the difference being is that HTC didnt come out and singlehandedly insult their customers by making a silly comment that Jobsie did;)

Plus people who had the Desire with pink tint issues had them replaced with minimum of fuss.

As Spawn said, HTC admitted it was a fault with some of the LED screens and swapped them all out promptly.

but is the yellow blobs a fault , glue , or just rush manu. to get them out

Well i havent seen many people in here complain about the so called yellow blobs on the iphone4 screen and if there have been...has it been fixed?? ie apple said that they should disappear after the glue or whatever it is has settled properly.

Again no one has said anything yet.

EDIT: Argghhhh robboftw im gonna come over and beat you over the head continously:p

lol yer the comment was stupid, however I still think that the issue is a non issue for 99% of customers who don't hold their phone in the most retarded fashion.

It was the word crippling that made me laugh, because its a complete non issue for myself.

Im thinking that some handsets must be more prone to the issue than others with the press coverage this has received in comparison to my experience of the issue.

Well dont know about the retarded fashion comment...i mean today i did the same sort of test on my brothers 3GS and yep the signal just dropped like a lead balloon...i mean holding the phone in your left hand in the way that most people are holding it seems natural to me:confused:...i cant see myself holding the phone with my fingers:p....even my BB i hold in my hand in my palm like normal and i dont lose the signal.

But meh if the software fix rectifies the issue then good...if not then ill just have to wait for the next 'improved' iphone4:p...but they must be confident ie Apple that its a software issue so lets see.

Erm, so you are saying the millions of people who hold their phone like that (I dont myself really, it varies), hold it in a retarded fashion? Are you serious?

More people than not have this problem, and many many people are returning their phones because of it, more than ever before. So yes, it is pretty crippling.

Just because you dont experience it (you may well have this issue depending on where you are in future) doesn't change anything worldwide.

Im thinking that some handsets must be more prone to the issue than others with the press coverage this has received in comparison to my experience of the issue.

It is unclear at the moment the exact issue, whether bridging the antennas causes a software fault to take place which reduces the signal, or actually reduces the effectiveness of the antenna itself.

Like i said in my experience, I physically have to dampen my finger and press over the joint shorting the antennas. Holding it in my left hand doesn't effect the signal for me otherwise it would be going back to apple :)

Like you said hopefully the fix will sort peoples issues.

My review of the 32GB Iphone 4:

Battery

Woke up today to a full charge at 10am. The phone has had wifi/3G on all day, I have been browsing the internet randomly throughout the day, streaming a few video clips, a bit of light gaming on some apps, also used TomTom for about half an hour. What I would call an average days usage really. It has just gone past 11pm and the battery is at 46%. On my 3G I am certain I would have had to charge it at some point in the day. Massive improvement.

Reception

I can replicate the famous problem when holding the device in 'that' way. However, I don't hold in naturally that way, and when holding the device sideways (when browsing) or when on a call, I have full bars. The problem definately exists in my phone but had no one ever told me about it, I would never have guessed it was there. However, next time I am passing the apple shop I will try get a free bumper case just for the hell of it. :)

Screen

Never used any handheld device which has such a brilliant screen. I am still blown away by it.

Build quality

Feels like £600 in your hands. :p But seriously, this is the first Apple device I have ever purchased. I am not an Apple fan, infact, I use to enjoy slating people buying these types of ridiculous things. This is different though, it has swayed me. I had a 3G which I used for 3 months before this, I got that free and I started to get what all the hype was about, but this is in a different league altogther. I will not ruin it with a cheap nasty case, I like using it as it is, no invisible shield, no case, nothing :D I do keep it in a pouch when in my pocket though and whenever I place it on my desk its on the pouch. I will take care of it just not put it a case which hides one of the nicest things about this phone... the design. :)

I am with all those saying it is unacceptable, for something costing so much to have such a major flaw. Infact, I will keep my eyes on what Apple do, if newer batches are released where the problem is fixed I will definately go complain and get mine swapped for another shiny new one but in the mean time, I am happy with it. It's gonna take some beating, you can't go back to cheap nasty plastic after using this even for a few hours.

Have decided to sell mine. Had a play with a friends and didnt really feel like I was seeing any benefit over the 3GS. Maybe I'll pick up the 4S or whatever comes next instead.
