*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Rather than trying to take court action, the sensible thing would surely to be return the product for a full refund

exactly

law suits solve nothing

Apple have got enough bad publicity from this already. They know its a big issue for the community. The public response is just one playing it down while they work on what to do about it next

they arent going to do nothing, they are just saying nothing.

Sorry, I'm trolling, I know! But it's soooooo true!
I saw that elsewhere, it cracks me up every time :D

Why wouldn't you? Are you seriously trying to tell me that an inherent problem with the antenna/software on a premium product which costs over £500 should be shrugged away with "your holding it wrong" type responses from the manufacturers?

Should the issue be sorted with a software update, I'm sure this lawsuit will go away eventually, but the general response, or lack of a proper response to thousands upon thousands of reported issues shows that drastic action needs to be taken either by Apple, or by a consumer such as the case with this guy suing Apple.

How about just returning the phone?

Agree...

Just get a refund...

Incidentally, i went down to the local apple store and had a go on 4 of the iphones and no matter how I held the phones i couldn't get the signal to drop at all.... Guess i must have greasy fingers :p

I hope the same people complaining about being told how to hold a phone are complaining to all the other mobile manufactures as well.
Completely irrelevant, all that warns of is a decrease in battery life as the xmit power is increased, it says nothing about losing signal.

lad at worked ordered an upgrade with 02 the other day, iphone 3gs as it was free. Yesterday they called him and said, "don't you want the iphone 4?". He's getting one delivered tomorrow!

Here's me waiting over a week now and still waiting, calling everyone and no-one has anyany, nor does o2 now ffs

Im looking at getting one of these on o2 and ive been looking at the deals

16gb iPhone 4 £209 quid + 18 x 35 = £630 / total of £839 !!!!!!!!!

However if u buy the phone outright - £500 then get simplicity at 12 months at £20 a month it works out at £740.....

and here the kicker. the simplicity one is the same in every way, except you get 600 mins a month, and the contract only gives u 300

Is this all correct, so i'd be better paying for the phone outright ?

Your maths is correct but don't forget the Simplicity is only for 12 months, the contract with phone included is for 18 months.

Well that's not true at all.

The Anandtech article shows it happening to the Nexus One as well. Pretty sure there's lots of other phones as well. But people love to hate on Apple so it's not as fun to mock Nokia and Android Phones.

Nobody is saying it doesn't happen on other phones. It's just that the Iphone 4's design makes the fault much more pronounced.

Apart from the person I quoted, hence the quote. Both the videos you quoted show the same effect by holding the phone in the same area, it can't be more pronounced than that.

Can someone who can easily replicate the signal loss issue try this and see if you get the same results as me. Just go into settings and turn off 3G and then try to see if you loose the signal the same.

In the office here I get full 5 bars on 3G, if I hold the phone in my left hand I can get that to drop down to 1 bar in about 30 - 40 seconds. I don't loose signal totally due to the good signal here generally, but it's clearly showing up the issue.

If I turn off 3G I get 5 bars signal with edge showing, if I then hold the phone exactly the same I get no signal loss at all.

My thoughts are that the phone is not detecting the fast loss of 3G service and switching to the edge signal quick enough. Possibly due to the enhanced signal loss of this external aerial design, so a software fix to make it switch faster could be all it needs.

If anyone can get the same results it would be interesting...
