What is FAST and are you ?

So somehow you are justifying your illegal driving by saying that you hate your job?

How does that work? Does driving quickly everywhere make time slow down? I'm no quantum scientist, but I'm fairly sure the time dilation effect only appears when you are travelling at a decent percentage of the speed of light. And I'm not sure that a diesel van navigating the one-way system in Swindon is capable of such speeds. Even if being driven badly by an idiot.

I do anywhere between 80 and 400 miles a day with work, depending on where they've sent me.
I never said I don't like my current job, I just said I don't care about it, i'm leaving soon. I quite like rolling up onto site while most are still in bed, having a quick cuppa and a fag then doing a good hard slog outside. I just refuse to waste time needlessly, it all adds up.

I don't think i've ever encountered a one way road in swindon, well, I can't think of one anyway.

Take it from somebody that really does a lot of miles at work - you could say I DO get around! - your not geting enough sleep and as a concequence are a danger to yourself and others around you.

Have an accident due to tiredness - which is VERY common - and I guarantee , if your lucky, you'll lose the 4 days again whilst in Hospital, assuming you have not lost your life.

FWIW, I have been driving for longer than you have been breathing sir, PLEASE heed my well intentioned advice.
Fair enough bud, I can see where you're coming from. And I know it's wise words, seeing as your job is driving.
|But I'm gonna stick to it until september, I can't afford to lose 15 minutes in bed and I find it difficult to get to bed early, girlfreind or mates alway want to do something in the evenings.
If I'm genuinely feeling tired I won't risk it, but usually i'll have my morning red bull and ciggy, i'm usually nice and awake by the time I leave for work.
I'm sure i'll slow down in september at uni, I won't have the fuel money to do my usual thing anyway.

If asked i would probably say not really as my lude is generally heavier then all the hot hatches and is in need of some tinkering and although i haven't GP'd any off the lights, i would like to hope that i would not to worry should any of the local lads try it on in their badly mod'd 106s. corsas and saxos

I do love the torque in my car. I'm still not bored of that kick back sensation when in any of the first four gears.

No it's not that fast compared to some cars on here, but it is quite quick, 0-60 in 7.5s isn't exactly slow (I know it isn't exactly fast either) :)

im another one where its all about the 0-60 and the 40-120mph roll on speeds.

i thought my 350+bhp estate car was fast then i bought a small 117bhp 600cc motorcycle, nothing like the other hyperbike owners on here but it still ruined all car driving for me :( and :D at the same time....

So the point of this thread, do you consider your car / or bike genuinely FAST ?, how should 'fast' be measured.
Back in the late 90's my Prefect and Anglia were practically unbeatable off the lights. No turbo'd hot hatch or even a lot of Porsches of the time stood a chance. But cars have got seriously quicker in the last 10-15 years and even a modest family hatch is faster in a straight line.

It feels fast bit in reality it's relegated to the realms of being a suped up 60's car.

That's not bad :) My Triumph with all of its silky-smooth 85BHP runs a 19.7 1/4 and that weighs 1250 odd with me in it :D

Bit of a step back from the Corvette that'd run it in 13.7, though :D

Hehe...yes, the first person I have beaten. :p

I got great reaction times though 0.68 was my best yesterday and it was my first time. :D

Better than me! I got a 0.7037 best on my first four runs - although I think that had something to do with the fact I was really having to work to keep the thing running, let alone concentrating on getting it down the 1/4 :D

My Audi would probably just creep into the mental slot........but I can't think of the last time I drove it in such an uncouth and ungentlemanly manor!

Measuring speed is all down to feeling for me, mainly the size of the "kidney punch" when the taps are opened. Another measure for me is a car's willingness to continue to pull relentlessly far in excess of the speed limit. The soarer is rather good at the later (not that I try too often ;)), but the feeling of speed is a little underwhelming :(.

That being said, I do consider my car to be "quick" as it is faster than most of the cars that it'll come into contact with (usually, by some margin), but it certainly isn't "properly" fast.

I think my car is pretty damn fast below 100mph. But anything above that and you don't really feel it hauling ass, like has been mentioned on here, that's when a truly fast and powerful car shows you the difference between quick and omg fast! However, using that extra speed on the road is somewhat.. difficult and dangerous..

My 59hp 59lb/ft micra is slow but I am used to it

A 118hp 1.9cdti vectra doesn't seem fast but feels adequate.

I am not sure what exactly I would class as fast - A friend has a 2.0T Astra so may be that?

I haven't been in anything faster in recent years.
