SETI@home News Vol. 109 (01/07/2010)

Of course, there are other things that you could be doing with your GPU while you wait over the next few days, that I'm sure would benefit the team.

I just can't think of any right now..

strange, after several measures of single maltssss. i hear 'folding@home' being whispered

better have another drink beforwe bed me thinks

Seems like all those GPU units downloaded really didn't cut the mustard. Most of them have completed in 3-5 mins

Numbers are counting down. 42.. 23.. 16.. 15.. 8.. 4.. system failure ;)

Is it just me or was there an inordinately large number of VLAR's ?

I'm now showing 437 VLARs. It was higher, but I'm slowly bashing through them. Certainly the percentage seemed quite high in comparison to recent weeks. As to where they all came from - 1 guess is as valid as any other!

Biffa - Why folding and not Rosetta - no reason other than simple curiousity?

Before Borkely went down for the 3 day outage i had 1300 tasks in download queue, what do i do with them? Will it simply start off from where it left when servers come back online?

Hi :)

Havnt posted on here for ages probably years :)
How is everyone ?
Still crunching a bit and had a question.
Is it worthwhile using a GPU 8800GTS for crunching?
have been testing with one and figures look good so thought i would ask to be sure.
Does pull 310 watts on i7 with all cores loaded so assume is expensive to run.

Thanks :)

CGS

Welcome back CGS :), the 8800GTS is great for SETI, the 512mb version is the best with 128 cores versus 96 on the other versions.

And if you think thats expensive to run you have seen nothing yet  :p

Yeah suffice to say i was not pleased. Would have made sense if they had a way of letting people complete downloads that were allready in progress, i even chaned to a 5 day cache. It's kinda weird without the noise of fans turning lol :D

Erm think mine is the older version 640Mb ram no idea on the cores

Well I think I have enough work but oh boy are these units taking a long time to complete.
As others have mentioned, I also have a crate load of work partially downloaded.
And why is it that when downloading each unit it would download 30% then stop and start downloading another, this is then repeated over and over.

Now I see what my problem is I have run out of work :(

Forgot that it shows tasks that are being sent in the tasks part but they are still not downloaded so this worked out well :(

*Goes and folds*
