Omnius is all you need :D

I downloaded Omnius but found the file I had for the Nordic 023 firmware couldn't be used with it so had to go with the method of swapping the files within the SE Update just before files download.

All went well with some lucky timing from myself and now have upgraded from Generic UK R1BA016 to R2BA023.

So far battery is still on 100% where as on previous firmware it would have dropped to around 94% by now.

Does this mean now that I'm on Nordic I can update via SE Update in future or doesn't it work that way.

Generic UK has only been updated to R2BA020

Has this phone been rooted or did you use the SEUS method to change firmware?

At the lock screen press "menu > back > back > menu > back > menu > menu > back"

Service Info > Model Info. What does it say there?

Onmius works differently from SEUS, as it uses SIN files rather then SEUS dumps. :D

If you have updated to Generic NCB firmware, then all you will get in the future is NCB updates. :D

Sorry for the confusion, what I wrote didn't read as intended. What I should have said is UK Generic R2BA020 to Nordic 023. I did use SEUS to flash by replacing the downloaded files with the Nordic ones.

Model Info says:
Model: X10i,
Country: Nordic Combined (b),
Brand: Customized

Is this the same info as you have on 023??

2 sodding weeks.

have you rang them to complain ? just explain how its ridiculous that they have spent so long with your 2 month old phone and that its unfair that you are paying line rental without your phone

you almost definitely will get some cash back on your bills. better than nothing

One thing I have noticed (a plus for the x10) is that you can't actually see the pixels on the x10 screen. I don't know if this has anything to do with the samoled screen (i.e. wierd pixels) on the galaxy S or the lower resolution, but you can notice the pixelation from a normal viewing distance. However, the screen itself is much brighter, blacks are infinitely better and colours are much better (again colours could be a screen issue or 1.6 limitation or a combination of both).

The GPU on the Galaxy S also means that animations and transitions are very smooth. With ADW.Launcher, if you enabled a transparent drawer, then scrolling was a bit jerky on the x10. Also the Sense preview type feature was also a bit jerky. The GPU in the Galaxy S flies through it.

Other things I have noticed are better, sounds are a lot more pleasant (for example when dialling, no high pitched sound), the dialler itself is a lot better, sound quality over phone calls on the Galaxy S is the best I've had on any phone. The UI itself is a lot more polished. The media players are very good, look pretty but are a lot more minimalist than mediascape. The touch screen on the Galaxy S is as good as the iphone which makes it the best touch screen on the market. It is very accurate and responsive.

2.1 means that the CPU isn't bottleknecked, but like I previously said, the bottlenecked cpu power on the x10 was more than enough.

Going from the solid and weighty x10 to the Galaxy S, the Galaxy S felt incredibly light and cheap. However, after a few days usage you get used to the weight. Then you realise that the phone is actually very well built. The USB connector is very well made and require next to no force to plug in and remove compared to the X10. I feel far less afraid to actually use it. I know there were problems initially about the connector getting damaged on the x10.

Considering that the x10 can be bought for sub £250 while the Galaxy S costs £350+ on ebay, which is the better phone? I'd say they fit they're price points well. However, the x10 really does need to improve sound quality over phone calls. There is no reason why it should be so much worse than the Galaxy S.

colours are a 1.6 limitation for sure. confirmed. is the brightness brighter even when x10 brightness is set to full ? the auto brightness setting never seems to get that bright

weird that you can see pixels though. have other galaxy owners mentioned this ?

You are correct that the autobrightness feature on the x10 isn't very good. So I did resort to widgets to control the brightness manually when indoors. Outdoors the sensor kicked in and pretty much always set it at max brightness. The brightness range on the SAMOLED screen is actually much lower than the one in the X10, probably because of greater control of the backlight.

However, you have to remember that the power usage compared to amoled screens is quite different. Maybe this isn't as much of a problem with the battery life improvements SE have introduced.

Yep, it's something you notice immediately. Youtube videos of the Galaxy S have the same thing, so I don't think its a fault. Again though, it's something you get used to pretty quickly. It was just really apparent for me because I came from the X10. But it's still a positive for TFT screens.

Hi Guys,

Quick question - my friends just got one of these phones but seems to be having a battery issue. He charged it fully last night by by lunchtime today is was so dead it wouldnt switch on.

Obviously that doesnt sound like normal usage - Ive recommended him doing a couple of battery cycles to ensure the battery is calibrated and maybe switch off WIFI during the night (its connected to his home router and he thinks it might be this - probably unlikely) just to compare battery usage.

Any known issues with the battery worth checking whiles hes still in the cooling off period?

ps3ud0

Its a Virgin Media phone - I did tell him to check if theres new software/firmware for it but not sure how to check or where to look...

Hes new to smartphones so hopefully can work it out...

Get him to do the following.

At the lock screen press "menu > back > back > menu > back > menu > menu > back"

Service Info > Model Info.

:D

Or debrand the phone :p

Just bought an X10 and it should be arriving tomorrow. Can't wait :D

What type of protection are people using, InvisibleSHIELD? Pouches? Silicon cases? Mixture?

It comes with a screen protector already installed, no need to buy one
