No surprise on the poll here:p...as backward as the women who wear it or are forced to wear it ie the notion of banning it...so much much for freedom eh??...banning such things means we have lost a bit of democracy and shame on the French for even considering the ban.

I dont like the veil myself but banning it would be the worst decision ever..

about sums it up

they are forced to don it by their religion/spouse/culture or they are forced not to wear it by the law

perhaps some are forced to wear it, and perhaps some wear it out of respect, but surely it should be up to their own free will either way?!

how is making a law to force them not to wear it any better then being forced to wear it?
Though Im sympathetic and agree with your logic, to ensure we maintain freedom there have to be rules/laws and as a symbol of oppression I cant how anyone would find it acceptable, even if it is termed 'traditional', to wear the Burka...

ps3ud0

They don't use hands to wipe after going to the toilet. Most muslim countries are more sophisticated than the west in that sense and they use water to clean up. Toilet paper is just dirty, in my opinion.

How do they clean there rears?

You need to wipe first, dont you???

Why on earth would they wear it at home?

i dont care what most people do in the privacy of their own home i wouldnt want to intrude upon this. this situation is no different.

So that would be those seeking to take the freedom to wear clothes of choice away?

should children be allowed, or even ENCOURAGED by society to all wear balaclavas in school? no this would be completely redicolous. why should being of a specific religious deonomination change this. i.e why would you actively disadvantage everyone else for the benefit of one religious group?

I dont understand why we allow them to wear them in court, yet we cannot wear even a baseball cap in court. I dont even understand why we care.

No more nativity plays because it might offend...who cars ? not me.

To maintain freedom, we have to restrict it upon those that actively seek to destroy it.

And how is a Muslim woman wearing a veil trying to destroy freedom? If anything, this law takes away a freedom of being allowed to cover ones face in public.

Also this does nothing to help security? Do people really think that a radicalised Islamist woman who wants to attack a place is going to stop as their veil has been taken away? No, such a person would attack regardless.

Frankly, I'm pretty disgusted by the ignorance and racism I've seen in this thread.

Why cant people have a discussion (right or wrong) with out people like you calling us racist.

Religion is not a race is it.

Alright, Xenophobia then. Now I'm not saying criticising something is wrong, I've done it enough times myself but this law specifically targets a group of people. Targeting a group of people is not going to make it easier to help them assimilate. In fact it'll be faced with more resistance.

I'm hoping the European Court of Human Rights will have a serious look at this case, from both perspectives and make an informed decision.
