It is human nature to not like (or even hate) something that we don't truly understand. Fact.
I understand it perfectly. I still don't like it or find it acceptable.

Why? What will it achieve?

And how is a Muslim woman wearing a veil trying to destroy freedom? If anything, this law takes away a freedom of being allowed to cover ones face in public.
Also this does nothing to help security? Do people really think that a radicalised Islamist woman who wants to attack a place is going to stop as their veil has been taken away? No, such a person would attack regardless.
Frankly, I'm pretty disgusted by the ignorance and racism I've seen in this thread.
So if i walk into a bank wearing a black overcoat and a balaclava, i am not indeed a robber trying to hide my identity, im just a normal customer expressing my freedom ? Are you serious ?
We are not talking about normal clothing we are talking about a face mask. They can wear whatever they like but we in this country do not mask our faces in public, they must adapt to us not we to them. Try walking down a street with a balaclava on a see how far you get and remember to call the person that stops you a racist.
But it's British culture to be tolerant, banning items of clothing because you see them as foreign (and that's some how bad) is pretty violently against British culture.
It was cold.
But you dont wear one everyday do you

and therin lies the problem. do you not see we are exploited because of this? taken for a bunch of mugs one might say
Politically correctness gone mad no wonder this nation is going downhill.
What should be enforced is removing in certain areas, eg banks, post offices and so on.
This i have no problem with...if its a case of banks, post offices or other public places then they should rightfully remove the veil or be asked to. But then you would end up with all sorts of accusations of discrimination etc etc.
In what way are we being exploited? How exactly do you exploit tolerance, when the "exploit" will be tolerated?
I've worn a balaclava in public during winter? How about if someone walks into a bank with a scarf wrapped round their face because it's cold? Are they suddenly a robber?
In fact, why don't we ban people wearing scarves during winter because it's a threat to the public. Or a hoody, because in public a CCTV camera can't see someone's face. Don't you see how much of a slippery slope this legislation can put us on?
Okay, when was the last time a Muslim woman in full Muslim dress attack a target within the UK or the USA or France?
