Ordered a viper green scirocco!

£4000 deposit to get the payments sub £300

comes with aircon, its a highly specced car as standard imo. IF it didn't have aircon, THEN you may see some aerial footage of a bright green object driving around causing a tornado-like path of destruction

If it was my own car I would love to have lowered and remapped it in theory but in practice i'd have chickened out so the modding side of things is no different from me renting.

So, you intended on remapping to get more speed? Therefore, you want some performance right? What on earth then persuaded you to get a 1.4 heavy scirocco then?

2 years ago, i got a 2 1/2 year old Audi A3 with leather, and most of the other toys (Bose, nav, bluetooth, DSG etc) for less than your original budget of £12k that you had for your golf, it has IMO the best engine in the range (2.0Tfsi) and after 2 years, i still love it to bits and i really don't want to get rid of it, although i may have to in the near future. But my point is, i own my car, after 2 years, i've probably lost 2-2.5k of its value in 2 years, i still get about 35mpg combined and it's quick enough for me still and i'm not stuck in any PCP plan, it's completely mine now, i owe nothing on it and can expect a decent return on it when i do sell. You could have done something similar.

Oh, and i've just seen a viper green rocco at the traffic lights near me, i laughed.

New cars cost more than second hand cars shocker.

In Other News: People pay for cars using different finance methods, according to their lifestyle and life situation.

Quick question, the 12k Golf how were you going to pay for it? If using PCP then I can sort of see why you've gone for the 'Warm Mediterranean Wind' :)

But yes, I'm sure my maths may be a little bit out, however, you end up with different things at the end of 3 years, so it's not apples for apples, you have to compromise somewhere to get your alternatives, which is all kind of moot..
Let's see how out you really were and how accurate your '£2000' difference was. I'll use that 12k Golf in my local dealer (Windrush Taplow if you want to check) as the benchmark.

Scirocco:

£4000 deposit
36 x £275 repayments = £9900
GAP Insurance = £300?

so we're looking at about 14,300 in total. Your £2000 looking a bit unrealistic already?

Golf (this is without any discount negotiated):

£4000 deposit
3 year loan from Nationwide = £248 in repayments per month = £8928 total
Total = around £13000

So without even selling the Golf we're already £1300 up. Looking at Autotrader the Golf will probably be worth £7000 at least.

Total difference? £8300 at least. You're right you were a 'little out' - conveniently forgetting the 4 grand deposit helped the most. It's posts like yours which annoy me, blatantly pulling figures from nowhere and if people didn't bother to check the figures then they would probably believe them! £2000 - lol.

Maybe you should stick to posting digs about dents in leather.

One of the managers at work has a Scirocco in this colour. Except his is the 2.0, and it's a company car, with all the toys. It's a very nice car, but on PCP with the smaller engine and no real toys all I can do is laugh.

Well I cant really comment tbh seeing as I got skanked for 20K when I bought mine (resolved, see other thread). I collect our replacement tomorrow evening.

All I would say is that gap insurance can be had for 1/4 of what the dealers quote you (max £120 for the 3 year cover).

Finance wise, I do think you could have done it better but I know from looking at it all myself the VW finance APR is better than you can get on the high street.

As for the looks of them, purely subjective tbh (as with all Aesthetics), personally think they are the best looking HB on the road but I appreciate others will disagree and that's how it should be or else we would all be driving round in the same thing.

BUT with the 1.4 TSI 122ps model I pay a bit more than the golf but have a BRAND new rocco:D
MY assumptions are based on my interpretation of this, he seems to be comparing a 1.4 TSI of each to me..
And I didn't know about the £4K deposit at the time..
And we don't know the balloon payment do we? you need to take off 'asset' element between the cars street value and the balloon payment.

Honestly, your scenario is all based on him being very shrewd and also buying much less of a car (1.4s vs 1.4TSi).. however, clearly he isn't that shrewd, hence the PCP..

He could just have easily bought/sold..

Golf £12K at a dealers, I've even gone for a sportier 140 diesel..

then 3 years later, sells it for £3.25K

Honestly, I'm not saying PCP is better or equivalent to getting a personal loan, but it doesn't always work out magically ten times worse.. He gets a new car, and should get a little back from the Final Value to Balloon payment difference..

So stop getting annoyed and realise cars can be horrific wastes of money, especially if from a main dealer.. you could get severely fleeced even if only spending £12K..

Even with the most extreme example you could find (including an awful mk4 Golf) your '£2000 difference' estimate still looks ridiculous. :D

What makes you think you've got any kind of cooling off period?
You signed a credit agreement "on site" so you don't have any.
Cooling Off periods are for when you sign a credit agreement "off-site" - if somebody comes to your house etc.

Not true. In our line of work there is a cooling off period irrespective of where the deal is completed.

Love the way these threads systematically destroys a persons happiness - only reason why I don't cancel my username.

If the OP is happy with the deal then fair enough. If this thread has given him 2nd thoughts I'd be tempted to ring and cancel the order - might be some sort of charge but I would imagine they'll be a number of days cooling off period.

Not really when at the end of agreement you'd have nothing to show for it. If it was bought then at least he'd have a second hand vehicle worth around £8000.

This I do agree with, and hence why I avoided it myself. The whole thing is reliant on you doing the same thing again and again and again......

The finance is likely to be approx this;

* Deposit: 4000
* Period (Months): 36
Finance Example

* 35 payments of £274.91
* 1 payment of £9,439.00
* Amount Financed £16,150.00
* Total Amount Payable £23,060.85

Typical 7.80% APR
