'Hi guys I just paid 50k for a 51 plate Fiesta!'

'Sweet mate as long as You are happy! Doesn't affect anyone else!'

Always a source of thrilling debate.
I can only presume that was directed at me, you self righteous arse.

Every single piece of literature I've read says that customers lose any rights to a "cooling off period" if the agreement is signed on the dealer's or lender's premisis.
I'm sure dealers could offer a period if they wanted to - but I can't see any legal requirement to.

They might charge him an admin charge but given that the deal was only done on Tuesday, I'm sure he could get out of it. What are they going to do if he just says no? Take him to court? highly unlikely.

we're discussing depreciating assets bought on finance, which wouldn't depreciate quite as fast if bought nearly new as opposed to new.

I think that most people understand that they're paying a premium for something brand new.

No more predictable than both your replies :)

Best thing to do when you buy a new car on here is to just say what you bought and post the pics.

Don't mention what you were looking at before
Don't mention the price
Don't mention how you paid for it
Don't mention your job/background

So true. Just post the pics and thats it. Guess some will always look up the engine size and spec but not much you can do about that :p

Every now and then you do get idiots roped into ridiculous finance deals - carcraft clio dude for one. Lambasting is fine under those circumstances.

Under these circumstances, it looks like the guy has got a perfectly ordinary new car finance deal coupled with half decent car.

These circumstances are horrible for the OP. £275 a month for 36 months for a borrowed car! He has to give it back in the end and is left with nothing!

But he knows that  Some people just want a new car every few years and don't want to kick up £20k of cash up front.

found a 2nd hand 1.4 TSI 160hp, 18'' alloys on AT,done 3000 miles from a VW dealership within driving distance.
sorely tempted IF I can cancel, thoughts?

Oh and realistically I intend to buy the car off them anyway at the end of three yrs. So instead of a load at 10% APR I do it at 7.8% and have gone through the same process anyway.

and yeh, seems I should have just posted pics when it arrived, I hope i'm not in the same league as the clio guy, I read that entire thread

Cancel first. Talk to the guys here about what to buy with your budget.

[[EDIT]]

In fact just ring the dealership now to cancel / book an appointment.

If you're not dead set on a brand new car, then obviously you can save a lot of money by going for something like this. As the others have said, if you do manage to cancel try to shop around a little before jumping in in future.

He originally wanted a used Golf for £12k and ended up with a new Scirocco on PCP.

See :p

That really isn't the point. Him knowing it and being happy with it doesn't stop it being an enormous waste of money nor does it protect him from criticism when he posts details of his deal on a public forum.

For some reason, not everybody that buys a brand new car and posts in these forums gets cricised though...
