It's free, the original was great, and it's not too big a download - just grab it, and give it a try :)

Not as "kick in the balls" but it definitely ramps up.

We played a game on normal, it suggested we up it to hard. We did so and a couple of levels in it got hard, very hard.

You definitely need a dedicated medic if you want to survive on hard.


Great fun with people on vent etc.
 
I probably wouldn't mind a game but kind of scared I'll screw up big time as that's what happened to me with the original and I just got shouted at a lot :(

Nows the best time while most are new.

Or just get in a game with a few friends. You can jump on our vent if you like and we will accomodate your skill or lack thereof :P

Me and macca played it just to see what it was like. 3AM we stopped playing, so much for early night :D
 
Played a couple of games last night. Things that I noticed:

  • Had trouble connecting to servers, 10 retries error
  • Not sure how the server browser works, or how to choose map
  • Sometimes it put me in a game that was already in progress so I was stuck in Spectator mode
  • I never even finished the first level because our engineer kept dying
  • There was only 1 type of alien attacking us, maybe just because its the first level
  • Apparently there's only aeound 7 levels? The first can be speedrun in less than 2 mins so I don't know how much mileage this game will have. Hopefully there will be lots of custom content.

The gameplay seems ok. A bit like L4D I suppose. It's a co-op game that you really need to play with friends on teamspeak and on a high difficulty to get the most out of it.

I was under the impression that there were quite a few more levels than that... Will have to check.

I couldn't connect to the servers at all, they refused to work =/

So was I, it seems the first campaign had 7 levels.

Unless there isn't other campaigns to choose but when i created I just left everything at default and never even looked.
 
I don't care that is has only 7? maps, the classes, leveling, perks, teamplay, achievements, difficulty settings etc give this a massive replayability factor, and for a free game thats pretty good, plus SDK means it will be modded in the future when I _eventually_ get bored of it!

God Damn I love Valve! They have a nack of giving the gaming community exactly what they want, definite LAN favourite for the future this one :)
 
left it Dling overnight, tried it this morning, but it wouldnt start.

Verified the game, and it said i had 2000 odd incorrect files and had to redownload. So now ive got another 900mb to crawl through :/
