Why is Racism Unacceptable but Homophobia is Acceptable?

I don't see why the slave trade has any effect on anyone alive today in this country. It is very much in the past. It doesn't happen any more. It has not happened for many years. To cling to it seems to be like looking for excuses for things to me..

It would be like us whinging about how hard life was when the Romans invaded for goodness sake.

It doesn't, it had little to do with black people residing in Great Britain at the time either as we did not have slavery within the borders of the UK.

He is simply attempting to make a tenuous connection between UK Gay Rights Movement and the US civil Rights Movement I think.

And before anyone starts wailing about 'homophobia isn't acceptable' you only have to look at the likes of the pope or other religious entities to see that it is.

Well? I would like a sensible answer.

The pope is also racist, he doesn't like Muslims (even though being Muslim is not a race)

[..] Just look how the poor/peasants were treated, [..]

My ancestors were peasants and poor. So, according to your line of argument, I am entitled to special treatment and discrimination in my favour (i.e. "affirmative action", the mealy-mouthed euphemism you favour for mandatory racism, sexism or whatever other irrational prejudice and discrimination you agree with).

I'll accept cash or bankers drafts. No cheques.

Incidentally, peasants weren't treated anywhere near as badly in medieval England (i.e. when we had peasants) as is commonly thought. But that's irrelevant to this particular argument.

Us white folk tend to not notice it because it doesn't affect us, but the research and statistics are all there to show it, as does a bit of basic common sense and the knowledge of British history in the way we treated black people. It is kind of hard to argue against fact. Whilst I freely admit that affirmative action is controversial and there is an argument to be had that colour-blindness would be the be all and end all of solutions eventually, I don't think we are there yet by a long stretch.

Black pupils 'are routinely marked down by teachers'. Teachers' assessment of children's ability is undermined by stereotyping, says research

Research and statistics aren't worth the paper they are wrote on. Especially when you are getting your information from the USA.

I am not sure what part of the world you are from but you are still living in the past. How can you make "us" accountable for actions of people in the past? You are branding us all as evil people just because we come from the same land as these people. You can not judge a person by other peoples actions no matter how many research quotes you come up with.

And my wife is a teacher and does not grade by shades of the skin but by the contents of their heads. If any class of pupils are going to be stereotyped I would have thought it would have been the modern day "chav" where we are bombbarded with negativity from all forms of media.

yea i was just thinking about only fools and horses, you get the 'pedro' insult to an italian (kind of racist) and the nufter lines.. but i dont think they ever called someone who was black anything

but i havent seen every episode so i might be wrong.

Whilst a thread is raised about homophobia will write this

Should a gay man be aloud into toilets where urinals in use

no... because gay men are unclean and you could catch the aids?

and to you, because they might be perving on your odds and ends?

like why a man doesnt go to the womens toilet?

I'm pretty sure there were some racial comments towards black people but nothing OTT.
