Wonder if a GTX 460 will be able to run it very well, or just "well". I was going to buy a GTX 460 1GB card for this game, hope that would be ok.

By the way I'm really interested in joining Knights of the Round!

That's totally ridiculous, the game doesn't look graphically good enough to warrant such high requirments! For me the beta isn't too encouraging and this clearly shows they don't know how to optimize correctly; definatley not getting this game.

I'd just love to be able to play the damn thing consistently. So far it's been a total server failfest, and it's caused me frustration many times greater than the excitement I felt at getting an invite.

i have to agree, it really isnt very well optimised, its not doing anything new and the graphics are good but definitely shouldnt need as high a spec as it does !

I completely agree that although the game is pretty, and the original invitation to the beta made me quite excited, the actual time I've spent in-game have made me really really upset. I've either been trying to login, creating my character (the only bit I've enjoyed so far) had people telling me story at great length, or hating the lagging and controls.
I can't believe how little I'm enjoying the experience.

A lot of people measure the bar against established MMO's. I am yet to play a SINGLE beta of ANY game which has went smoothly. Whilst I cannot comment on game play in general as I have not been in beta I find it daft that people will pre-judge a game based on its beta performance when this is the company still testing the game. Just get over beta problems and judge the game on the gameplay.

Wow beta (in every expansion as well) complete nightmare.
Aion beta even worse
Star Trek, worst ever
Warhammer made me chew my nails off in frustration.

Let the game get live then judge it, if the same problems persist in live then give it hell from above as some people are doing now.

Looking forward to getting the game and giving it a go myself :)

Wow!

Erm... looks like I'll be bypassing this then :D Ah well, roll on SWTOR.

Actually, I'd say live +2 months. That's pretty much the point at which launch teething issues should be expected to be all ironed out. Quite a generous point as well actually.

Beta is a testing phase. It's designed to find out the real-world issues that occur when then game is played on a large scale. It's not supposed to work now. It's designed to provide server performance data for the devs and techs. It's a logistics exercise - an early peek at the game by the testers is incidental.

The recommended specs do seem very high - I should hope there will be more optimisations happening so enable better performance before release.

I also remember reading that less then 20% of the full game is in beta? I am guessing most of that is higher content but could there be more things at the start too?

Those are the requirements to play the game in the recommended settings.

The minimum ones are here:

  • Operating System: Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista 32-bit / 64-bit SP2
  • Windows 7 32-bit / 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core2 Duo (2.0GHz), AMD Athlon X2 (2.0GHz)
  • RAM: Windows XP: 1.5GB or higher, Windows Vista / Windows 7: 2GB or higher
  • HDD/SSD Space: Installation: 15GB or more, Download: Space on the hard drive where My Documents is located should be 6GB or more
  • Graphics Card: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600 series or higher, 512MB ATI Radeon HD 2900 series or higher
  • Sound Card: DirectSound compatible sound card (DirectX 9.0c or higher)
  • Internet Connection Broadband Internet connection or higher
  • Screen Resolution: 1280 x 720 or higher, 32-bit or higher
  • DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
  • Others: Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad

Run the benchmark if you're unsure :)

The higher settings were based on running the game at this level of details

Window Size and Display Mode 1280x720 (Windowed)
Ambient Occlusion OFF
Depth of Field ON
Shadow Detail Standard
Multisampling 4x MSAA
Buffer Size Window Size
Texture Quality High
Texture Filtering High

I think everyone has got to remember that this is beta. The game isn't going to run as well as it will in retail. There are graphics issues that SE have reported themselves on the beta site. Also server load problems, interface problems etc etc.

Theres no point in judging the game entirely on whats going on in beta. I played for quite awhile yesterday and the game ran smoothly and certainly playable. Apart from an issue with server load in a certain area, the game worked very well.

I ran the beta like this:

1680x1050
4x Multisampling
Shadows: High
Ambient Occlusion> OFF
Depth of Field>OFF

Also added some AF through nvidia driver. I tried DoF and didn't really like it, so I turned it off and didn't really notice a performance difference.

Benchmark results for different GPU's (specs in my sig):

8800gt 512mb: 2970 LOW and 1706 HIGH
460 1GB: 3777 LOW and 2430 HIGH

well you've got completely the wrong idea mate...

maybe its the rulebook that gives this impression.
the rulebook we've put up there is just a safeguard against dramas... all common sense, all completely standard and only really there in case we get grievers so we can just say "look you signed up to the LS, grieved and broke this rule... la la la. you're out"
sure its full of legalese but again, if anyone whos a griever argues... theres a clear case against them.

we are a SOCIAL shell, completely relaxed about leadership, as for ranks of members. you have new recruits, members and officers like virtually every guild out there...
we've got a great community on msn/vent

apologies you've got the wrong idea, but no worries. we've got a great little community of over 40 members now and are doing well and having fun.
hope you have fun in your guild.
Apologies mate if I came across as a little abrupt. I've just had a lot of experience with guilds/linkshells that ran like Knights of the Round in the past, and they all turned out to be nightmares :(

Hopefully this one is a great shell and I wish you the best of luck :)

Just ran the benchmark.

Got a score of 2840 and a load time of time 16571 I think it was.

Is that any good? Watching it it ran as smoothly as it could (at least as far as I could tell)

edit: I found the rating system one the webbie, surprised that my performance only came out at average but meh :p

Then you're an idiot along with the rest of the plebs who get into a beta and then whine and complain because it's not their magical penis stimulator that they had been dreaming about.

It's a damn test phase. "Omg system requirements are high, and I've played the unfinished, buggy, laggy and unoptimised version of the game and it's unfinished, buggy, laggy and unoptimised. Therefore it is a terrible game."

Seriously?

It seems too many people are using this as a demo of the final game, and not seeing it for what it is.. an unfinished test version.

Any idea when they may send out another wave of invites?
Nothing has been said so far regarding when (an exact date), however I think (stress think) the developer said there will be one more stage of Beta which may include more invites or simply be changed to open.
