**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

PhoenixUK, low tier attacks at the start are part of the game. You say no games ever get to higher tech because everyone just attacks with tier 1 units, well that's just not true. Every game goes up to tier 2 sometime after the first 7-8 minutes. If you aren't surviving that long then you're not playing the game right. Starcraft isn't just about big battles. You're not allowed a free ride to high tech, you have to work hard to survive to be able to get to high tier.

Also, if you constantly make svc's, you can still afford enough tier 1 units to survive. If your opponent has no intention of teching, you will have a better economy than him because he will cut scv's to make units. This might mean he will have more units than you - but he will be attacking you at your base. Build bunkers, use the high ground advantage, block your ramp with buildings or more bunkers. If he has a lot more units than you and you defend it successfully, you'll be in a great position to counter attack. Or turtle and tech more if you really want to.

You shouldn't be losing to the first rush. If you are, your build isn't optimal. It also sounds like you're against building more than 1 production building. I'm sorry, but you'll never win if you decide to build just 1 barracks. It's just the way the game works.

35 quid for a game that cost a fortune to create and promote isnt exactly that bad. Call of Duty was demanding high prices and I found it was worth every penny at 40 quid.

We all often complain about PC gaming dying, then we are too tight to pay a higher than usual retail price for a game.

Cant see what peoples problem is really.

Don't totally agree with you. £40 for MW2 was stupidly high, on top of that initial high price there's the dlc packs.

£35 for a new game is normal isn't it anyway? So why not pay that much for a game that I presume will have such high production values?

Why are people saying 35 quid is normal for a new game?

I've bought loads of new games over the past few years and never spent over 25 quid. 35 quid isn't normal for a new game unless you regularly buy games on console or find stores that are consistantly overcharging you.

Total noob at this game i played about 6 rounds on the beta and won about 2 of them. I want the zerg to be my race of choice, have i picked the right one for me, are they hard to play as. If i put enough hours into them i should be quite good. But if anyone can post some info and tips i should know please do. Whats the zergs pros and cons, the way i see it they rely on numbers but they have very low hp.

I don't buy games very often. I'm happy to just play TF2 which I bought for £15 2 years ago (Orange box). But whenever I do buy games, they're usually console games for £40 yeah. So £35 doesn't feel like a lot to me at all. That £10 I'm being "ripped off" from isn't a lot of money. I'm a poor student with no job and very little money to spend and £10 is nothing. To say you won't buy a game because it's £10 more than most PC games is honestly baffling to me.

ahh ok thanks :)
i dont think we can intall the game until tuesday anyway even from a retail disc as i saw a youtube unboxing video and it gave the same message when he put the dvd in as i get when i run the installer

When the game comes in a 3 part release and its really 3x £35. I will be waiting till all 3 are bundled for £15.

You'll be waiting a long time, even assuming they release 1 per year. If you are patient though you could stand to save the best part of £100 - so fair play if you aren't bothered.

its not about the £10. in these cases its never about the money. its about developers ripping us off and charging more than they should. There are tons of games around to play so waiting for a price drop is not hard at all. especially when games like company of heroes or even warcraft 3 are vastly superior and make sc2 outdated before its even out.

CoH and WC3 vastly superior to SC2? lol that's funny. CoH is good but SC in general is on a whole different level. Especially in terms of competition and balance.

£35 in a market thats seriously impacted by piracy. For a game thats took years of development, millions to promote..

and we are being "ripped off". I know CoH is awesome, warcraft 3 (another blizzard game) is great.. but you cant use that as an arguement, theres always going to be brilliant old games for less money. KOTOR is better than Mass Effect, but I could buy that for 5 quid when Mass effect was 30+. I still didnt feel ripped off

so i'm going to be paying extra because other people choose to break the law and play for free? are you for real? its not like activision blizzard are running out of money because of piracy. they charge more because they know idiots like you will pay for it.

Theres no need for that!

At the end of the day you either think it is value for money and buy it now, or you wait until the price drops to a level you feel ok to buy at.

I don't see the point of moaning about it, doing so isn't going to make the price move magically.
