I’m not racing the road bike, MTB races etc. I want to do the southern XC and Gorricks next year whilst doing some of the larger ones like Bonty 24/12 (just past)

I just need to get my fitness up to an acceptable level.
I just had to get the Focus bike with a deal like that. :)

Guys, can anyone point me in the direction of a 12mm bolt thru axle please?
Im getting the Hope Pro II 12mm bolt thru hub with a wheel.
I have a 12mm conversion kit that includes an axle, but I think this axle is JUST for a conversion and not suitable for the 12mm bolt thru ????

The conversion kits are just for the hub to make the whole a different size, the skewer is specific to your fork. What fork do you have? I think that is what you are saying its not overly clear.

135mm. Frame is an Intense SS2.
I'm a bit confudled as to how the 12mm bolt thru axle (Hope) actually keeps the wheel attached to the frame. The ends of the axle are not threaded for bolts.....

Very nice frame! Do you mean this thing I think they just make the hub hole big enough to take a 12mm bolt through which secures the wheel on.

Thanks :)
I have the full conversion kit; Bolts, Spacers, Axle etc. (so similar but with bolts)
I'll have a look at it when I get home from work... Maybe the hub will come with an axle.. or not :D
Because it's a bolt through system and not bolt on. 2 bolts thread into the axle at either end....I think.
How does the BOLT ON system work?
It's only been QR for me :(

The Hope hub is internally threaded. So you have your new 12mm axle that goes through the frame (not underneath like on QR) and the 2 screws either end go into the axel and hold the wheel in place on the frame.

Other 12mm through bolt systems may just have a solid piece of 12mm steel that has a bolt at one end and a nut at the other.

QR and 12mm bolt through are both Through bolt designs.

A through axle is an axle system that comes with the frame and not the hub.

Bolt on is just 2 nuts or whatever that secure the axle in place. This can be used for 9/10/12mm systems. 9mm and 10mm being QR. 12mm being like on the Hope Hub you have.

I think that's right. :)

These help to explain it any better?

It will help me get more confused. :p

The Halo hub has your conventional bolt through design.

The Maxle rear is a through axle design with a collet style QR.
