Trance is so vastly misunderstood...

Hi all,

Some of you may know the record label 'anjunabeats' (as per sig)...

It's responsible for a huggggge catalog of some of the finest music on the planet (imo)...

They sign up great uplifting and progressive trance artists for example.

What I'd like to say though is that trance isn't what a lot of people think it is. When you say the word "trance" to someone they automatically think of utter garbage like Cascada and Basshunter...

This isn't proper trance music!!!

I think if you're one of those people who don't listen to trance much that you should perhaps listen to a few tunes from artists like Above and Beyond...

I'll get the ball rolling with a few tunes which may make you're perception of trance change somewhat... ;)

Some sad and some uplifting tunes there, if you like any of these I can recommend some other artists who make similar (there are many) or if not, well oh meh, least I tried to spread the love :)

edit - if you like these tunes and want to listen to some more Above and Beyond are airing their weekly radio show at 7pm - 9pm gmt time : http://www.di.fm/mp3/trance.pls

To me that isn't trance, not even close. I class it as 1/2 step up from cheesy dance music.

Trance to me is goa/psy, I've been into since the 90's and regularly have some blasting out as I take my 4 year old to school.

I have always harbored a love of trance, even when I listened to mostly metal music, I got into it from World of Warcraft boss kill movies actually :D

I have uploaded a 2 hour set of Armin's ASOT 221, which in my opinion is the best show he ever did (though I haven't been keeping up lately). All my trance brothers & sisters...

384 is my all time favourite, you should give it a listen :)

Trance can be alsorts, I like all different styles of it from hard, tech, melodic, chillout, minimal... Love all trance tbh

Some oldies and a couple of newish ones

Really did appreciate trance in my "older" youth but 2 things are facts:

They should never be allowed to make videos to accompany the songs
You have to be on some chemicals to really, really appreciate it.

Theres 1 or 2 tracks out there I don't mind, but just not feeling Trance at all. :(

Gimme early 90s Hardcore any day, much better beats :)

LIES!!

Anyone who finds it that way was never really in it for the music imo. Don't get me wrong, they can indeed add to it, but I listen to trance pretty much every day, and have done so for the past 12 years, and I still get tingles.

Same, out walking with the ipod in, trance can really make me feel im in a different country on a hot day, sometimes in a totally different place to where I actually am. Best is when your actually in a different country, laid by the pool listening to it with your eyes closed imagening paradice, dreaming in a way.. I can do all this sober and still feel trance putting me in one. On chemicals its so much better, Although I used to prefer to listen to trance on a comedown because it felt so much more chillout. I havnt taken any chems for years now and still listen to trance, now more than ever really.

He can be good, but he is no way a god. Sure, it's all subjective, but he goes overboard on the vocals most times.

His mixing and track selection is vastly superior to Tiesto at least, but out of the big name trance djs, when on form, no one can touch PvD. WHEN ON FORM, sometimes he plays some terrible tunes, lol.

I've seen armin, tiesto and pvd all live and out of the 3 id say armin topcs the list. tiesto actually plays a good set live, just his producing side of things lets him down. pvd is a stuck up knob, he wouldnt even play a last song for everyone and i seen him just brush off and walk past people wanting to shake his hand at the doors, id say his set wasnt overely great compared to others ive seen although ive only seen pvd once.

always wanted to go to armin only but never had anyone to go with :(

You are all my new best friends :)

I'm hearing "John O'Callahan", hell yes (though I'm not keen on his newer stuff, cheesy vocals ruin trance). Mauro Picotto... old school Chicane, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Blank & Jones, there are too many to list...

Armin van Buuren is a god IMO, phenomenal choices of tracks and his transitions are perfect.

Johns new guise is Joint Operations Center, hes knocked out quite a few good remix's, including some of his own material.
If you like Mauro Picotto and John then check out this track

I like all the older dj's like.. Bart Claessen (Barthez) has quite a few I like

Nic Chagall (Cosmic Gate) When this dropped in a nightclub my legs turned to jelly and I amost fell to my knees

A softer mix of it

Tiesto = 3 times
Armin = 6 times
PvD = 6 times
Ferry = 5 times

PvD has been the most consistent, and you only have to look at Tiesto's commercial filled tracklists to see he play utter dross (and can't even produce).

This was one of the best 2 hours of my life:

Some pretty amazing songs listed on page 1 of this thread. It takes me back to the days when this is the only type of music I listened to.

Love Trance music it's so uplifting.

Wow this thread is god-damn ace. Brings back so many memories from when I was between 17-24

I really do miss the good old trance days, between 1996-2002 was the pinnacle of modern trance. I really do miss those days.

Life was about the weekend. You would work all week, then Friday night the Real week would start.

110% this!
