*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

@guise

Put the card under your gfx card a slot lower, maybe 2.... Warmth wants to go up so you best set your top fans to exhaust instead of intake! Get cool air from the bottom or front of the case... that's just my opinion

Your sound card is blocking airflow.

I shaved 6C off my 460 temps by taking my half height x-fi out.

Your full height card will be causing even more of a restriction.

^this^

heat rises so have top exhausting hot air....

Ran that Heaven Benchmark, my GPU reached 97% load (higher than Kombuster, wtf?) and reached temperatures of 98c! Not good. I'm going to remove the soundcard now and use onboard sound.

Are both of those orange Nexus fans required to be set at exhaust or will one do?

Thanks for the continued help.

I find Kombuster is pretty weak for testing max heat.

OCCT will push it far harder.

As a comparison, I get 80C load @ 60% fan in OCCT @ 800/1600/4000 @ 1.000V

Lol, getting 99c in Kombuster is pretty terrible then? I'm about to restart and remove the soundblaster and change the top fan to exhaust. I'm using the exact same clock as you, could you let me know what your fan profile is like please? Just so I can set mine a tad higher as yours is obviously much cooler.

Regards,

Fans both set to exhaust now and I've taken the SB card out, dropped idle temp by 7/8c.

I'll run the benchmark again now and post some pics to see responses. I'm a newbie to this so thanks for your patience, but will the card have been done any damage reaching the heights of 98c?

For those that have just purchased a 460, NVIDIA are giving away 5 free games if you register on their site.

You need to upload a photo of the card and serial number and it's limited to the first 50 entries,

Games are Metro,Just Cause2,StreetFighter,Dark Void and RE5

http://uk.nzone.com/object/nzone-gtx460-offer-uk.html

Just got an email from nvidia telling me I've won the 5 games! Anyone else heard anything?

I saw the link but completely forgot about the pic with me holding it before I put it in. not sure I can be bothered taking it out and hasn't it expired now anyway?

Anything you've already got would be appreciated if you send it this way! metro 2033 ideally! :P

I think the offer is still open but it was only for the first 50 people so probably too late. I actually only have about 3 games at home - so I'm quite looking forward to trying some new ones out!

I'd alter your fan profile to a maximum of 70%, as this is what it's locked to with the main Gigabyte bios (70.04.0F.00.01).

Wouldn't have thought you've done any damage.

Mine needed 1.0v to be stable at that.

Currently running 850/1700/4200 @ 1.037v.

Trying the exact same on my Giga with those settings, but as soon as I start OCCT the errors come flooding in! What voltage are you using Hex? And what exactly do errors mean? Mine had 0 at 800/1600/400 @ stock voltage.

What res should I be running OCCT at? And fullscreen or not?

Thanks guys! :D

What temperatures is your card running at chrisgt? I ask as I read that you've a similar setup to me + same card.

Regards,

Takes me 1.000V for 800/1600, and 1.086V for 850/1700.

Keltic has got a really good card to get 850 on those volts. :)

As for OCCT, doesn't matter if its full screen or not, you can just leave it on 1024x768 windowed (just make sure its the one in focus), or bang it on your screens max res, and remember to tick error checking.

It'll still fully load your GPU quite easily whatever res you choose.

Guise, if you are getting errors like that then you need to up the voltage to make it stable.
