iOS4 - iPhone 3G

thanks, how?

Launch Setting
General
Home Button
Spotlight Search
Deselect indexing for all or as many items as possible

Just done it, still takes 6+ seconds to open my SMS inbox.

HOWEVER, it does speed up the rest of the phone no end. I'm impressed, more so because I don't use Spotlight for anything so it's a no lose for me. :)

Thanks SilverPenguin, much appreciated.

O

  • Download firmaware 3.1.3
  • Put phone in DFU mode
  • iTune will tell you that you need to restore, hold shift and click restore, point it to recently downloaded 3.1.3
  • After the restore it will fail and the phone will be the activation loop

now this was were it is a pain in the arse, but only becuase I run windows 7 64bit. Getting libUSB working on this is just to much hassle. I have a just stuck Windows XP 32bit on VMware and installed libUSB on the virtual PC without an issue. Then I downloaded iREB 3.1.3 for windows. run that and click 'break activation loop'. It will do its thing then go to the normal activation mode. plug it into iTune, activate and setup as a new phone.

.

Is there no way of doing it on win7 x64? I don't run anything else?
Do you loose your contacts and everything else?

Unless they've fixed it, I don't think you can restore iOS4 backed up settings/data to 3.1.3 phones. So you'll have to use a backup from pre-iOS4 upgrade.
